Proper weight for colder climate
So I have been running Mobil 1 0w40 on both of our C class cars since we bought them. We lived in Pa and though it cold cold it didn't get stupid cold. We moved to Wisconsin this summer which can get well below 0, which rarely happens in Pa. Any good reason to choose one vs another. Any recommendations from those that know?

I live in Wisconsin and I don't feel the need to deviate from what you have been using. I don't change over in winter to anything different and the car starts and performs fine through winter.
Not sure where in Wisconsin you moved to, but it isn't that often it gets will below zero for extended periods. To, me, not much difference between +5 and -5, which is what the typical overnight lows seem to be these days, at least in the southern part of the state.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is the ideal oil to use. That's the oil we use in Canada when temperatures can get to -40 celsius.

No and not required for any car. I lived in Regina for a short while in the dead of winter and even then I never bothered to plug in a car.

Makes a big difference so that the spheres don't freeze off!

By the way, welcome to Wisconsin. Hope you enjoy the Packer telecasts on Sunday. And just in case you were wondering, we do not boo Santa here. More likely to offer him a drink than to boo him.

I'm up in the Appleton region. I will for sure hit a Packers game at some point. Have the inside scoop on sky box seats. Very excited.

At -40f you want the thinnest oil possible - you can find the "pour point" for mobil, Castrol and others on their web sites - if I recall right Mobil 0w40 and 0w30 were both -54c and castrol edge 0w40 was -60c ....

0w40 is fine for all of us in N. America. No need to be tailoring the engine oil for your car based on where you live as few of us live in Antarctica, Dubai or the Arctic. A multi weight oil that is mass produced (0w40 being one of them) is fine.
