Considering a C300 Sport
Hi Everyone,
I am considering getting a C300 Sport with the 6 speed manual.
I am not looking to race anyone, not going to tune it or put a gaudy muffler on it. I want a daily driver with precise handling and lots of feedback. My old car, the GTI, was named Project Fahrvergnugen. I had never derived so much pleasure from driving, from having a direct connection between the road, the tires, and me. Unfortunately I got in an accident and totaled it. Gap insurance will take care of the payment but living in LA I do need a car.
Now, the car in question is a 2008 C300 Sport with 53,000 miles.
I will be going for a test drive hopefully this weekend, so as far as driving dynamics go, I will be able to see for myself.
How has been your experience with the W204 over the long term? Any known issues? Maintenance costs besides the timely oil, filter, plugs change?
Thanks!

I think the overall handling of the car feels better than the GTI (I had a GLI). The worst aspects of the car's handling (unpredictable and often slow throttle response) should't be an issue with the 6 speed manual. Although I've read the shifting on the Mercedes doesn't have a high end sports feel that one would expect.
There are days I still miss my VW. It was a far less problematic car and easier to work on (as far as a German car goes). But most of my problems have been related to a later model C250.

2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 Sport (W204)
Before my C300 I had a MK5 GLI and I love my C300! They are almost the same in terms of handling. Except that the steering feel in very numb in the C300. I have the DI 3.5 so I have more power than the one you are looking at. I say if you really want a mercedes c-class try looking at a 13+ you will not regret it!
