2012 vs +2013 instrument cluster

So I have a 2012 C250 and had a question about the instrument cluster. While its an upgrade from the pre-facelift generation W204 ive noticed that the 2013+ years have a more colorful display in the center of the gauges. Does it have to do strictly with the year, or is there the option for 2012 but with like a tech package it only comes with? Also does the vehicle information get stored in the dash of if I find a color display are the able to swap easily?
Example, this is the display I have...

Vs the display Id like to have

Where are you? My 2013 C250 was built for US and has the same instrument cluster with yours. The second pic is from a non-US model. Sorry but I have not heard anyone made the swap if at all possible. Perhaps others can chime in.

It is a software issue. Back in 2012 all Mercedes models had the beige color which they upgraded in 2013 with a software overhaul. I am probably one of the few people in this forum with a 2012 car with the 2013 color because I self performed the software flash with STAR.

Can you please elaborate or post instructions regarding the software flash with STAR and what files were needed? Thanks.

Comand also has a setting for the Color schemes also but it doesn't impact the IC. The yellow one is called "papyrus".

When I had my head unit replaced I think it lost the ability to set the scheme from the engineering menu but older ones, 2013 or less, should be configurable.

huh...purchased where? No disrespect but hope you realized the odo and scale depicted on the 2nd pic is in kilometer, right? I'm jealous, MY US model doesn't allow me to change the digital speedo to km and even it if does, the scale is definitely not interchangeable via SW.

So what exactly are we discussing here? Is it the difference between the instrument cluster/display as a whole or display color, but what color...? What am I missing here?

I believe the first picture was taken in the daylight with the dash lights off and the second picture was at night with the dash lights on, so that makes it look different too.

I have a wonderful independent Mercedes mechanic would he be able to do that? I love everything about the car besides that beige color, makes it look older I think and would love for it to be updated.

Having a 2013 with black interior and brushed aluminum trim I feel like that about most C and E class cars I see. The yellow displays and wood trim give me the "looks old" feeling.

It's all subjective though. I think they go for a classic lux organic look. Which clashes slightly with some of the other design elements.

I have the yellow/beige colors display and I love them. I think it looks stylish and it is very relaxing.

This is a very difficult upgrade to do without already having used STAR and Vediamo before. If you feel is worth spending the $400sh for a STAR or $700+ with the PC bundle to test something you might fail at then go for it. If you can successfully or have already used Vediamo in the past I can give you the instructions on how to do this software flash, but until you are at that point, learning the upgrade process is only 5% of the way at most.

Reason why I say this is because the same thing happened with the thread about changing the responsiveness of the car in Funk's throttle thread which out of dozens of people interested, I believe only him and I were able to do it successfully. I also did it for a guy that drove from NY to PA and I am pretty sure he is a happy camper, because I never heard from him again.

If you have an Indy would could take on this task, ask him if he has Vediamo software and if he is willing to do it for you. If he doesn't have Vediamo, he probably won't bother to get it just for one modification.

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I am very familiar with STAR as I use it regularly, but not Vediamo. I'll keep this in mind until I get my C and then decide what to do then. Thanks again.
