More Knob threads... COMAND VOLUME KNOB.

Since today is national knob day, figured I'd post something that has been bother me for months. My volume knob on the dash COMAND takes a long time to raise the volume of the music. It is much slower than the steering wheel button and it feels as if it is not always catching. The fastest way to raise the volume through the knob is to slowly raise it at a consistent speed, but not too fast. Is this the same cheap part as the COMAND control knob shaft?

Thanks.

on certain cars that's kinda the same like i guess the manuf. wants to make sure you don't blow out ure speakers and ear drums when u turn it up soo fast... but when u turn the knob slow then the volume goes faster... my 2007 civic si does that..... soo 2 for 1

If by "normal" you mean the number of turns versus the volume level is getting higher the more time goes by, then I agree...

In other words, (my knob does the same thing as described by OP) but its gotten worse with time... I attribute this to the fact that the knob is a mechanical switch which is subject to wear and tear as time goes b. Whereas the steering wheel volume control is an electronic switch the might still wear out, but not as a function of spinning.

Keep in mind I have been wrong before....

That said, happy knob day!

So they don't care that you might blow your eardrums when you use the steering wheel controls? Because that controls the volume much faster than the knob...

Not being sarcastic, just hypothesizing!

I tried my COMAND knob and the steering wheel buttons. They are equally fast in volume control.

i get were u're comming from but in reality you can only press a button sooo fast to raise volume while driving but much quicker and faster to turn a knob with speed to raise the volume.. so you can over do it with a knob b/c it's soo fast but with a push of a button you kinda know your limits.... i actually did it this morning on the way to work....
you say they don't care if you blow ure ear drums i think they do b/c look at what they do with the a/c and blower rec. button... ever notice when you press it for cab air after a while it always defaults back to fresh outside air... b/c they don't want you to suffocate and die by smelling your same farts!!!!!!

I've had 2 other C300s in the last 2 years that didn't do this, neither does my brother's ML350. It is probably the same fault as the control knob breaking, except that this is slipping. The button is very inconsistent at raising volume and probably takes more than 10 full turns to get to max volume if you do it fast.
