Intermittent P0017 CEL

Last week my 2013 C250 popped a CEL, it turned itself off the next day so I didn't worry too much about it. Yesterday it came back on, I pulled out my code reader and it's "P0017 (Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B))", today the light has turned off again.

Since it's not all the time and just one sensor I'm thinking the sensor or magnet is probably going bad.

Anyone else had a similar issue? What it just the sensor?

Sorry, I haven't had that one on this car. But if it is the sensor, based on my W163 experience I'd urge you to purchase OE (likely Bosch). I've also had the experience with crank (not cam, but similar) sensors failing when hot, then returning to normal. If you can find a spec on it, check the resistance of the sensor when hot. Or just replace it--looks like ~$50 for an MB one, so the OE is probably $30.
Unless the magnet has gone away, I'd be surprised if that's gone bad.

OE is made by Bosch. Just buy the Bosch version at an auto parts store and save over buying MB branded parts. They are exactly the same once you take the one out of the MB box.

So as an update, the CEL turned off again and stayed off until a few days ago. I noticed that it would always turn back on when it was above 30f or so which kind of confirmed my suspicion of a bad sensor.

I replace the Camshaft Position sensor earlier today and took it for a test drive, the CEL turned off almost immediately and it seems to be running okay. I'll update back if the issue reappears.
