Hi folks,

I changed out my front brake pads today, which...surprisingly wasn't that difficult. Anyways, I broke (don't laugh, too hard) one of the caliper covers? I don't know how to explain it. It's the thing that says "Mercedes Benz", and it's originally painted black. It's the thing that covers the caliper springs.

Anyways, about to rid myself of this car soon, so don't really care. Is there anything that this cover does? Or is it purely for show and I don't have to care/waste $ with buying a new one?

Did it snap in half or something? When I did my brakes, the clips broke so I just glued the plate back with black silicone. I've had it off for brake service and reapplied silicone to put it back and I never had issues.

Yeah it snapped. Are you concerned at all about the part disintegrating and it flying all around your wheel?

That's the part that scares me if I put it back. I read online that that stupid cover only comes with the entire caliper part. Unsure if true though

Well, mine didn't snap, it just didn't clip in place anymore. It's just aesthetics anyways. If you really want a new one, you'd have to call local scrapyards, they may sell you the cover alone. I would just leave it off if you are getting rid of the car.

Just to close the loop on this thread in case anyone else is in this same predicament..

Called up the parts department today. Sure enough, that damn thing can only be bought WITH a new caliper!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been there done that when I changed my brakes last fall. One of the caliper covers broke and I had the same reaction as you when I could not buy one.
