Hot Climate Oil Viscosity

What oil do you guys in AZ, FL and other hot states use in your W204s? The manual looks pretty useless for high temps; the diagram tops out with 30W being ok up to 90 deg or whatever they chose for the top of the scale. Where we live when every summer day is 100 or more, is a max viscosity of 40 a safer choice?

I put one of those new 5W - 40 synthetic oils in my car for it's last change and I think that should protect ok up to 100 or a little over. But oils with a top number higher than 30 seem harder to find now and I'm wondering if I might be wise to stockpile some of the 5W - 40 for future changes. Lots of cars now use a 0W - 20 or something like that, obviously for maximum economy. And engines must certainly have evolved to work ok with those lighter weights over a wide temperature range.

In my '94 Porsche 928 I run Mobil One 15W - 50 but of course, that's from a different era and it needs a thicker oil for it's own reasons.

For Mercedes use 0w-40 or 5w-40. Down here in Texas I use Liqui Moly 5W-40 for my customers with gasoline engines and Motul 5W-40 8100 X-clean for diesel engines.

Get the real stuff, Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40. The generic Mobil 1 is not the same.

Dealers here only use Mobil-1 5W-40 Formula M for gas and Mobil-1 5W-40 ESP Formula M for diesels. That's all they sell. It has lower ash and corrosive alkali ("total base"). It's also good to -35C. Yes, 0W-40 "European" formula is certified, but Formula M 5W-40 is the recommended oil. You can compare the specs:

The dealer I order my parts from is now selling Mercedes Benz packaged bottles of oil. I have now clue what brand oil they are using now. If you notice newer cars no longer come with the Mobil 1 recommended sticker. They are still using Mobil 1 ESP formula for diesels.

My 2019 has a sticker that says Mobil 1 or Mercedes branded oil. Dealer is still using Mobil 1.
