Rear main seal leak

Rear main seal leak
Have leak beginning on my 2011 c300 with 85,000 miles. Any recommendations for an oil additive? Dealer wants $1,700 to replace seal.

Rear main seal on a M272 engine at 85k miles??? That is hard to believe, at least for me. I have done tons of rear main seals on M112/M113 engines. You know most people confuse the oil leak from the centrifuge cover or the vacuum pump with a leak from the rear main seal. If I was you, I would get a second opinion.

Thanks for your input. My MB dealer noted on my last oil change that there was a rear main leak. Put on my lift and it is wet but will have to remove cover to verify. Hopefully just the dealer trying to get $1,700.

Had same misdiagnosis. Check the cam bore covers. These often leak and are an easy fix.
