Push Start Button Not Working

Hello Team,

I am new here so I do apologize if this question has been asked before in a previous thread.

I have a MB C180 2012 Model. I have two remote keys. For about a month now, the keyless go has not been working for my primary key/remote which I have been using since I got the car. However I can lock and unlock the car as well as open the trunk using the respective buttons on that same key. But when I try to start the car with the push start button while that key is inside the car, it displays the error "Key Not Detected". When I step on the brake and I push the start button it says Remove Start Button and Insert Key. Further attempts keep displaying Key Not Detected. When I touch the door handles it doesn't unlock the car anymore.

The interesting thing is when I use the other/secondary key everything works just fine including keyless go etc. I am able to start the car with the push start button. This makes me believe that whatever is wrong has everything to do with the primary key and not the car itself. My challenge is I am unable to figure out why my primary remote is able to lock and unlock the car and even open the trunk but when I try to use push to start, the car cannot detect it but my secondary key works fine. Any help on this will be appreciated.

Try changing the batteries in the affected key.

Thanks xsever, I'll try that even though I doubt it's the battery. I say this because I removed the battery in the affected key for use in the other key and it just worked. But thanks I'll still give it a try with a new battery.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
With KeylessGo, the SmartKey actually has three separate circuits - one for RCL (remote central locking, i.e. pressing the fob buttons to lock/unlock), another for DAS (Drive Authorization System, i.e. inserting the key into the ignition switch), and anther for the KeylessGo proximity system. It sounds like the first two are working. Note that DAS does nt use or require a battery in the SmartKey fob. Instead, it inductively powers the key via a coil in the ignition switch. Both RCL and KeylessGo require a battery in the fob. Both use about the same amount of power, so typically, if the battery powers RCL, then it should be good for KeylessGo. Since one key works and the other does not, I think you have a bad key; its KeylessGo circuitry has failed. It's also possible that ti has just somehow become "de-programmed" from the car's KeylessGo module. That can be corrected be re-coding KeylessGo with SDS.

Useful info. I'll try my luck with re-coding it.
