Question Drive Shaft Flex Disc Replacement $444??

Hi guys,
I went into the dealer for my airbag recall and a few other small items and was quoted $444 for a rear drive shaft flex disk. The note on the paperwork states "Replace due to cracks found in the rear flex disc". The tech says its in the beginning stages of cracking and isn't bad. But how long it lasts depends on how I drive (and I tend to drive relatively spirited).

The car has 108k miles. Is this normal wear and tear for this age of vehicle? It's a 2012 C250 automatic 1.8T.
And more importantly, is $444 a rip off?

Thanks!

I would've thought you'd experience symptoms first. Are there any symptoms?

Either way, $444 for a dealer repair like that doesn't sound bad.

No symptoms that I know of. The car has always been jerky (turbocharged), and theres always been a slight hesitation when taking your foot off and on the gas quickly at a rolling stop. But nothing out of the ordinary.

Just trying to make sure I don't get ripped off! Never heard of this part before today.

Thanks!

I can't even get my dealer to replace wiper blades for $444, so if you can get them to do a flex plate for that amount it's a win. Googling it seems like on most cars a flex plate can be a 4 to 8 hour job and run $1000+

it’s not a big job, bmw is very similar and I would get the job done in no time. $444 doesn’t seem too bad for a dealer, but I called it a gravy job when I was a tech and loved them.

Yikes. I'll count my blessings then with the $444.

I did see on google that on most cars they last up to 200,000 miles, so it gave me pause.

I did my transmission mount and rear flex disc in about 2.5 hours.

Considering the part is $50 and dealer labor rates of probably $150-200 an hour, $444 is not a bad deal.

Although $50 is better :-)

A flex disk is a job that should take no more than 45 minutes. RMEuropean shows a flex disk at 85.64 (list price 228.00), so $444 for a dealer price OEM part including labor isn't terrible.

The dealership doesn't that for 444.00 and that's a deal. Theproblem is your need to do the front transmisson and the middle support bearing and the rear from all Ive read. My 2016 E350 Sports has 63k miles and might as well repair thisproblem too. Not repairing can destroy your trans and drive shaft.

We have done crummy dealership here Columbia SC. Trans serviced cost me 1700.00 yep diagnostic fee normally its $700.00. The service guy is a ***** and he knows I cant stand the place or him. They wouldn't do a flex plate for 444.00 here that's what the part they would charge you cost. I'm ready to dump this **** box asap

Ok so it's a flex dikc not a gf lex plate. The disk takes the place of a universal joint on the drive shaft on regular cars. It is not a hard job too do at all. Like was said 45 min tops to do the job and that's me laying on the ground. If you have three ability change it yourself it's very easy.
If not then pay a local shop to fix it and saver some money since it's such a easy job no need to go to the dealer honestly.
