Very bad welds on Redback/" BM catalysts " exhaust system for my 2010 W204 wagon

I ordered center piece exhaust to my wagon, did some research and Redback seemed like a good option. Not too expensive but supposedly good quality. Today I got the exhaust and I have to say I never seen such bad welds on a exhaust. This cannot last long before those hotspots corrode through?

Hoping for some input, what would you do? Return it?

That's gross and unacceptable. I just bought an inexpensive, ~$450 exhaust for my coupe and for a catback on that end of the cheap scale, it has way better welds that what you've shown here. Up to you if you want to send it back.

This looks nice, what you expect on a good exhaust in that range. The centre piece i bought is just oem spec and 220$ but still. Decided not to return it, but just complained to both the dealer and the manufacturer.

I would tell them you are unhappy with the quality of the work and that others agree from this forum, but that this gives them an excellent opportunity to demonstrate outstanding customer service and make things right, AND to get positive publicity for their product and services. Send them a link to this thread so they know you're not bluffing. This website is arguably the most popular with Mercedes enthusiasts worldwide and it will give them great exposure. I would think they would want that exposure to be good.

Looks pretty bad to me. Where did you buy it from? Im not familiar with redback, or any exhaust company for that matter. Was it directly from that company or 3rd party shop? Maybe the manufacturer would agree that's not up to there standards. If its not what you expected I see no reason to not let them know. Maybe they are not aware it went out looking like that.

aftermarket parts

True, the weld looks handmade by unskilled day laborer but is it defective ??

Can this pipe hold 100kMi with little efforts: possibly

I bought it from a 3rd party shop, a Norwegian company. I'll update here with what happens with my complaint, if anything. Most important for me is letting both the manufacturer and the good people in here know. I must believe it's not supposed to look like this, however there is no leaks and I will put it on the car this weekend.

Got a response from "redback group AB" that they do not actually produce the exhaust, but distribute it. And that i was welcome to return the exhaust. Professional and fast reply from those guys. I left a bad review with "bm catalysts" as they produced it, and gonna leave it at that. Exhaust is on the car and working, albeit with a not-optimal fitment and a presumably short life due to the bad welding.

I guess the morale of the story is never buy Redback.
