M271 Headgasket Leak (rear of engine)?
M271 Engine of 2013 SLK200; oil residue is seen on top of transmission housing and rear corner of the block… (cant feel any oil from the vacuum pump though)
any experience to share on the leak within this rear area of the block?
Many Thanks!
A

In my opinion just from looking at the photos it looks more like seeping as opposed to leaking. Do you see any drops of oil collecting on the undertrays, that would be a sign of an active leak I would think. My W204 M272 engine has alot of those oily/dirty areas but when I remove and inspect the undertrays they have no oil drips on them. The oil level seems fine, I maybe top off 1/2 quart between yearly oil changes which I hear is normal as oil burning off. I did replace leaking oil filter housing gaskets, I was more worried the gaskets may be leaking internally and the oil blending with coolant.
I would clean the area and simply monitor it before losing my mind thinking it needs major work.
I was under my W204 a few years ago and saw what I thought was transmission fluid leaking out.. I did a little researching and saw that seeping is totally normal, at least with the transmission. Its the active leaks you have to worry about.
heres what my trans looked like a few years back before I cleaned it.
