the temperature needle drops to 0 degrees

Hello, I have the following problem with a Mercedes C180 Kompressor W204 2008. station wagon. As I drive, the needle stays at 90 degrees and suddenly drops to 0 degrees and the fan blade turns on. I turn off the car, turn it on and there is no problem, it returns to 90 degrees. I read it with the most famous reader, my computer shows a normal temperature of 88 degrees, but on the dashboard it is at 0 degrees, an error p0116 appears. I decided that it was the temperature sensor, which is on the top left of the engine. When I stood in front of the car, I replaced it but there is no change.

What is P0116? (Please don't expect people to go look it up if you are asking for help.) And what "most famous reader" are youi using?

VW had this problem years ago with a bad batch of coolant temperature sensors, but I have not heard that about your engine.

If you have replaced the temperature sensor and are still having the problem, check the wiring harness to make sure there are no shorts. You have a 17 year old car and sometimes the insulation becomes brittle and breaks off. Where do you live?

Whats that, the M271 engine? Im not very familiar with it.

What was the part# you replaced? I tried searching for the location of the temp sensor and im seeing one on the M271 but its on the top right side of the engine. I could be totally wrong and its not even the right engine.

I was looking thru the manual for my M272 and oddly I found the 0116 code. What does the scanner read exactly?
