It is great that you did good, I went to Beshooff ins San Jose and got 20% on a 50k car. What dealership did you go to for your deal?

I am trying to compile a list of dealerships in CA "Bay Area" and discounts they provide (may vary, this is based on my experience and how the car is obtained, dealers give great deals on lot cars, they rather not order a car for you, so they discourage it, some moderately some aggressively.

Ok, here is my list of bay area dealerships;

Stevens Creek - Lot car 7k off, they will start with 1k or 2k, ignore, walk away, they will call you, minimum 6k off on any car off the lot. Omar will give you 5k off an order, if you tell him you know someone else was offered that.

Walnut Creek - They want counter offers in writing, good follow up and good potential, too far for me, so I drooped them.

Oakland - meh, only asked to come in, and it's far from me.

Beshoff - right away, matched the best deal I had so far, on an ordered car 9k off, this guys are great. Right off the bat I told them I was going to order, not interested in lot cars. (They really don't loose anything on order cars, since they don't have to carry the cost, but they rather move what they do carry cost on and that is lot cars).

Summary;

There are great deals now on C RWD, even better on 4-matic "of the lot", you can practically get 4 matic free or for the same price as RWD, I never need 4-matic where I live (CA is a drought state).

If you know what you want and are not willing to compromise, you will get a lot of resistance, but getting the same deal as "of the lot" is possible, just takes a lot of emails and right attitude.

Picked it up from walnut creek - MB Oak was doing 5% off msrp + my trade in ($3500) + wanted $5000 on top of that

In my experience RAB & WC are very aggressive & make it happen

Thanks, yeah WC would have been my second choice, my contact there was pretty much ready to match anything I came up with, as long as I had it in writing from the competing dealer (not an unreasonable request). Good deal, it seems the bay area is full of C's I see them all the time, unlike my CLA, that works out really good for us in the market for a C, I guess.

C250 AMG Line (Prem Plus) Bluetec & Land Rover Discovery 4
In the UK, I've managed to get my C250 AMG which had been optioned to the tune of £39570 reduced to £33099 (so a £6471 saving).
This was on a business contract hire deal during a VIP Discount event at my local dealership.
I was fairly happy with that, but wasn't easy. took lots of haggling and comparitive quotes from other dealerships.
Now just have to wait for delivery, which is June at the moment!!

I am realizing that waiting is the worst part of the whole thing (mid April for me).

Cheers

How is 8% off on a an order car and 13.6% off on a lot car? Both from two separate dealers and both came in an as an initial email offer which means I have not countered either yet.

I got 20% off MSRP at RAB Motors in San Rafael on a car they dealer traded for. Walnut creek matched their price but did not have the car I wanted.

Depending on where you live, you can do better. Good idea to include that information in your post.

If you read this entire thread, you will get a better idea of how good a deal is possible. But, email quotes should be considered just the first of several offers and counter offers.

Yup - I've got very similar if not same Internet pricing dealings with the Bay Area dealers you guys mentioned. Only thing for me was the lady (forgot her name need to dig thru email) at Beshoff only offer 12% and did not follow up, Oakland was the worst - typical sale pitch even over emails - constantly asking you to come in only. Got my at WC - yes far for me also but they were quick to deal and gave me the price I wanted. I havent seen many W205s yet but then I work from home

In UK I went to couple of dealers and couldn't get more that 4k discount on C200 Petrol or C220 Diesel AMG with Premier. Went to carwow.com who put me touch with dealership 150 miles away who's giving 6k discount. Eagerly waiting till end June now.

I purchased. Put about 30% down and went with 6 years because I wanted low payments. Actually plan to pay it off much sooner, if I keep it. No trade in.

That sounds exactly like my plan, I am going to put 8k down and keep the payments low. What ballpark did your payments come out to? I am thinking 550 to 650.

So my c400 msrp is 53800 plus 300 paperwork fee. I paid 44300 for the car so who is the winner who got the best deal?

Something I don't quite understand is how MB dealers can take off so much from the MSRP if the invoice price is many thousands higher. I know there's stuff going on behind the scenes between dealers and MB, but still can't imagine dealers making up the huge difference from MB.

Euro has lost its value by 20% in the last six month. Not sure if it translates into cheaper European cars (?)

Did I get hosed on the rent charge?

I feel like the rent charge was really high on my C300 lease. My wife has a Ford Explorer Sport that she leased for almost the exact same purchase price and her rent charge is only $825.

Sticker Price /w delivery: 51,795
Gross Capitalized Cost: 47,700 (Car 46,525 + 1,175 3 year maintenance)
Capitalized Cost Reduction: -2,2250
Capitalized Cost: 45,450
Residual: 32,717
Depreciation: 12,733
Rent Charge 3,826
Total Payments = 16,560 (460/mo * 36)
Paid Bank Fee & tax at signing

Also how much are people paying for the 3 year maintenance?

WA is more competitive I think since only 4 Benz dealers in the Seattle-Eastside area. Lynnwood, Tacoma, Bellevue, Seattle. I've been negotiating with them on a custom build C300, best I could do so far is:

$50375 MSRP
$46375 Selling Price ($4k off MSRP)
Doc fee $150
Acq Fee $1095
License Fee $345

Residual 63%
MF .00167

36/mo 10kmi

Down payment $5k
Monthly $508.87

With $5k down, the monthly still feels high and the car isn't going to arrive until May so I am waiting to see if better incentives show up then to unload the 2015 models or a "summer event", then I'll re-negotiate...I'd like to get to the $450-range with $5k down but I might be unreasonable there

Why not just buy in California and save a bunch of money? Same warranty wherever you buy or have it serviced.

As for buying out of state, I live in Oregon and this is what I was told when I contacted Beshoff in CA: "Unfortunately, we have risk to manage on all new car transactions, including potential export issues, that precludes us from selling new cars out of state."

I'm pretty sure most California MB dealers will sell you are car if you take delivery in person. I've priced cars in Washington state, Oregon, Nevada, Oklahoma and Arizona in the recent past and never had a problem getting a deal. However, none of them wanted to ship a car (export) except for the BMW dealer in Oklahoma. They wanted a live transaction and pickup. Once you drive the car off the lot it is yours so you can always have it shipped back to Oregon if you don't want to drive the car yourself.

My out-of-state contacts were always by email with an internet manager. Internet managers always seem more knowledgeable and accommodating to me. If there is a way to get this done, they will know. Try doing your pricing on line with RAB, Fremont and Walnut Creek. I would also check Oregon DMV rules for bringing a car into the State. Here is the link. Seems pretty easy to me.

I know of no rule against out-of-staters buying cars in California. I searched California DMV and found no prohibition.

I remember reading that in CA it's a bit different. If I buy the car there and brought it here to WA, I might ended up paying double taxes?? Help me guys, been in the states for less than a 5 years old kid

So, if I purchase a car from California dealer, what should I say? How would I deal with paying the tax later on

Check with your DMV. In California I would pay the difference between taxes paid the state I purchased the car from and California tax. For example, as a California resident if I bought the car in Seattle and paid $1000 in sales (use) tax, and had I bought it in California I would have paid $2000 in tax, I will owe the State of California $1000, not an additional $2000. I also know that dealers selling cars to out-of-state buyers like you, end up getting a refund of any sales tax. This is from California DMV.
"Can a refund application be submitted when the vehicle/vessel registration fees are paid by a dealer and the vehicle/vessel is delivered out of state?
Yes. You must submit a completed Application for Refund, and surrender:
  • the Certificate of Ownership (title),
  • registration card,
  • license plates,
  • stickers, and
  • window copy of report of sale or state the report of sale was submitted to the department at the time of sale.
You must also submit a Statement of Facts from the selling dealer indicating how the vehicle was moved from the dealership to the purchaser."

I have never heard of paying double sales tax. But, easy to verify. Call your DMV and ask. A couple phone calls may save you $$$$.
