Confirmed: 17in snow wheels will not fit Sport Pack cars

Edit: This is information for US Sport package cars only.

I have 17in snow tires and wheels for my C204 that I wanted to use on the w205 I have on order. After reading some conflicting information, I stopped by the dealer today to try them on. They do not fit due to the caliper size. Just FYI for anyone else in my boat.

I just ordered my 18 inch winter tires and wheels...good to know that 17s wouldn't have fit.

What engine do you have? and what are the dimensions of your wheels?

I have fitted 17.s on at least 10 W205.s with the large brakes (250 and up)
On the "small" sport brakes (180-220) even 16" will fit.

W205 250cdi 4matic, amg ext/int, 485 suspension
Is there any specs / site to check on that ? I do have also some 17" I bought for my w204 and I would like to use them on my new car, same engine configuration ( 250cdi 4matic ), line changed from avantgarde to amg.

Sales person told me it would not work, however I would like to double check this info .

Thankfully,
Amo

Check the dimensions, if the wheel is 7.5" wide with ET around 45 it should fit without problems.

I think the old wheel size is the problem here, not the tire size.

Let me clarify- 17in wheels will not clear US C300s with Sport Package (or C400) brake caliper. if you were to use a spacer, maybe you could get them to work somehow. But I observed with my own eyes that it would be an EXTREMELY tight squeeze either way, like 2 mm or less clearance. I should've been more specific to US cars, sorry.

What are you talking about?, there is no difference in the brakes on US and EU spec cars.

thanks vic. I need to check, find the invoice or something to clarify if they comply with your description. My wheels are stored by the tyres shop during the winter, so I cannot check them physically now.

Ok then I'm telling you, whatever size brakes come with the Sport Package, that w204 17 in wheels do not fit. The inner diameter of the wheel is simply too small. It will sit on the hub but the inner barrel of the wheel hits the caliper. I don't know how you got 17s onto cars over there but it doesn't work here, confirmed by me being in the garage bay with the tech. Don't want to believe me, no problem. I wish it worked because now I need to sell this wheel and tire set up.

I run a square winter set up, here are the specs:

17x7.5
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 5.98"
Bolt Pattern: 5-112
Rec. Tire Size:225/45-17
Weight: 21.5lbs.

For 17in you need these tires and wheels:
225/50 R17
BA: 7.0 J x 17 H2, Wheel offset: 1.91 in (48.5 mm)

So yes, you can have 17in snow tires, just not the ones from the W204...

I never said I didnt believe you, I asked for the dimensions of the wheels that did not fit.

To be clear
17" DO fit, even with the large brakes 250 and up, but only with the correct dimensions, 7,5" ET45, but I also forgot to mention that some wheels are shaped in ways that they wont give caliper clearence even if the dimensions are correct, therefore it is important to try the rim on the car before mounting the tires if unsure.

The MD dimensions are 7" ET 48.5 according to manual.
I tried fitting 16", correct ET etc. to my C200 but the outer stick on wheel balance weights caught the brake caliper, had wheels rebalanced with inner only, the wheels fitted but only just miss the caliper, too close for my own peace of mind so bought a set of MB 17" winters.

found the specs: alutec shark 17/7,5/5/112-47/70.1.

should they match the new w205 250cdi 4 matic amg exterior line?

thankfully,

To enter your discussion.....i have e C220D with AMG package and other stuffs.....am running 17's now in the winter without any issues.
Running 225/50 tires and the offset on the wheels are 48.5...BUT
I would still recommend 18's for a better ride.
My setup feels like driving a boat sometimes hehe

Yes it looks better, but your dealer is misinformed or trying to con you, 17" fits perfectly fine on C250
