Clicking sound from the dash
I've been hearing some kind of clicking sound coming from the dashboard. Maybe from the central console. It's not very loud, somewhat mechanical sounding. If anyone has ever heard of failing harddisk clicks, I think it sounds similar. But mine only has Audio20, so no hd in my car. Trying to pinpoint and replicate it is quite tough, because it doesnt really happen during specific conditions..such as going over bumps etc. Seems kind of random actually, and not very often. Anyone with similar issues?

Yep had the same - seems to be worse when the car is cold so suspected it was something to do with the plastics around the centre console. Once warm I don't seem to notice it.
If it gets worse I would consider a dealer visit but always concerned that when trying to solve this kind of noise/rattle problem new ones can be introduced.

Update: I think the sound is coming from the cd player. No clicking when I have a cd playing but random clicking when I'm not. Maybe something to do with the seek head?

Hi Evenmb,
I have the same clicking sound from my dash around the clock too~ I sent the car back to MB workshop and they said the sound is coming from the Keyless go Sensor. But, they can't fix it
How is your solution? Does it's fix? Do you have Keyless go?

So I've read the same on a French-speaking forum, and apparently all owners with Keyless-go seem to experience the clicking sound. The issue is known but so far there's no definitive fix.
Workaround is to remove the Start button and use the normal key to start the engine: magically, there's no clicking sound anymore

I have the same sound and keyless start. I don't really find this sound too annoying because it has a clear pattern and only sounds once.
But why let a sound like that exist in the car? I think a car should only emit sounds that benefit the driver or are otherwise fun to hear
Another thing in this car that makes it feel that the development was somewhat rushed. Or does the S-class have this sound? I can not image that.

So. I've had the car in at the dealership for a couple of days and they've seen the problem and spoken to Mercedes technical department. It appears that it's the antenna for the Keyless Go that is making the noise for some reason. It will check for the key at startup, so you'll get the noise then, it'll check again four minutes in to the journey, and then again once you turn the car off (mine happens more frequently than that).
They've said that it is a feature of the car and that there is no plan to deal with it.
So, I've spent £40,000 on a car and it has a "feature" of an annoying squeak at regular intervals...
What a load of cr*p.
Does anyone know of a complaints department at Mercedes that will actually look at this, rather than the fobbing off I'm getting from my dealership?

It should do, but mine happens to make it every five minutes.
It shouldn't make the sound at all in my opinion. It'd be like the seat jabbing me in the ribs at the beginning of the journey, four minutes in, and then at the end, and Mercedes saying that they aren't going to fix it because it's only three times. It shouldn't be jabbing me in the ribs at all, regardless of it only being three times per journey.

There's no point to it making the sound - it's just a byproduct of some interference, I doubt that it has anything at all to do with a mechanical component. The C200 I've got on loan at the moment does the same thing BTW (SA Built for Australian market), and going by the number of people who've reported the issue it's safe to assume there's a consistent problem for anyone with keyless start.
I mean it's not a big issue or anything, but to imply that it's meant to be that way is just downright insulting I think.

Hey Paul,
I have Keyless-GO and experience the same squeaking sound too. Though mine happens on startup and sometimes when I turn the car off.
I'm disappointed to hear MB has no plan to fix it because they considered this is "normal".
My previous Lexus has the similar feature as KEYLESS-GO but I don't get this annoying problem.
Interesting to hear whether other MB owners with different models with the same keyless go feature experience the same problem or not!
Thanks.

Never heard anything like that in any other Merc or BMW... Seems we are being treated to new features... really not entirely excited about my new car now which arrives in just a few weeks. Seems there are a lot of early issues.

Yes, by the looks of things, it's present on every C Class with Keyless Go.
You can get around it by not using Keyless Go, but since it's an expensive addition, I don't see why we should have to not use it or suffer that irritating noise.

Is the clicking sound noticeable if you have music/radio playing?
It seems odd that I have not come across any car review with any mention of it even though they've all had the premium package.
