Three years is a very short tenure for the investment in an instrument panel, but in this case, justifiable. They may have figured out a way to carryover the structure, but change the top pad to resolve the current configuration. MB realized it was not in their best interest to continue with a design so polarizing as the nav screen turned out to be. The article summarizes what many have observed, and the resulting action which was predictable. Somewhere, an interior designer is probably feeling he/she tried to "push the envelope" and the larger market didn't appreciate how farsighted he/she was! (I realize most already here will feel differently.)
Good recovery plan and high praise to MB for realizing what they needed to do.This is also encouraging for the W213, which may be going through a pre-launch interior modification to become aligned.

hmm is that really the refreshed C class or if it just a test car for automated driving? I see a much larger windshield radar/camera module and also the tell tale panic stop button on the dash, not to mention that the guys fingers are just hovering next to the wheel incase of an emergency.
also the author has no idea about heated steering wheels in Mercedes, which is usually a twist top off the electric tilt/telescopic lever. It would not make sense to place it all the way in the climate row of buttons.

That's too bad. Don't get me wrong, I really like the way it looks in the S Class but prefer the interior layout of the C. Oh well, my lease expires in 2017, I guess I'll worry about it then.

I'm excited for this! As much as the current C layout has grown on me, I'd much rather have a fully integrated dash over the "floating" IT display that's so en vogue with MB and other makes.

digital dashboard sucks unless if they can integrate it well like Audi.
the S class digital dash looks so half-assed, like putting 2 ipad minis next to eachother

is being reported in few places now. not sure I would be too happy if I was on waiting list for a w205 knowing that there would be a complete revamp of new interior

But then again we won't see this until late 2018, so can you wait 3 years for the facelift car?

true but then again maybe this is the way things are going to be from now on with the pace of changes that is happening in the car industry but if this story is true then it would be the biggest revamp of an interior in a facelifted model that I have seen. But we don't know for sure what they are really testing here so we are just hypothesising

I sat in the S class when I was in the showroom with a similar display setup and I actually didn't like the continuous panel. There was no 'flow'.
If we keep hesitating on our purchases because a newer model is just around the corner then we will never end up buying anything!
Perhaps this could be a (very expensive) retrofit...

Agreed on this, you need to purchase when you need to purchase. There will always be a replacement/possibly better car coming along. Be happy with what you have.

The W205 is being used as a mule for the upcoming W213. The W213 is the platform that Mercedes will use to debut their next gen autonomous driving system.
The W205 may possibly get a facelift that includes these changes but the vehicle in the pics is not for a vehicle in 2018.
It is more likely for the W213 next year. I am surprised that these auto-mags would be so naive.

I would not read too much into this. Benz runs concept mules endlessly. TFT screens are dirt cheap to implement. I just hope they stay away from ****ty, fingerprinty touch screens & listen to their focus groups.
Ms. Oona Scheepers has been good to her word & VAG group are going to greasy touchscreens. How awful!

I may be in the minority here, but I actually like real analog gauges and needles.. Kind of like how I don't think I could ever warm up to smartwatches the same way I do with traditional watches.
That being said, I haven't spent much time at all in any car with digital gauges.

Like others, I assume this is a test mule that is not representative of an upcoming facelift....

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercede...the-first-time This article includes an interior photo of the new C Class Coupe which is expected to go on sale in October 2015. The dashboard is clearly very similar to that in the current W205. Therefore, I think I'd go along with the idea that the photos of the large screen dashboard were of a C Class being used either as a test bed for some technology or a test mule for another upcoming Mercedes model.

regardless of what is being tested here this sort of upgrade would make a lot of sense as it makes the progression from C class to larger Mercedes sedans pretty seamless. I think Audi are working on something similar

Yes ~ the 2010 "CLK" was rebadged the E Coupe to give the E Class line a boost. Still based on W204 platform & then the C Coupe on the same platform brought in at a lower entry point.
