I don't think the "butt hurt" is coming from the C400 guys. I am pretty sure they could care less.
Most of the noise is coming from a few of the fuddy duddy AMG owners. They are probably the same ones that were making noise when AMG announced the 2.0 4 bangers.
They learned to accept those vehicles, and they will have to learn to accept these AMG sport vehicles too.

The preliminary numbers I am seeing have it as quick and fast as a CLA45. Be fearful, very fearful. There's a lot more one can do with a mildly modded V6 than the 4 In the CLA. The 4 as currently modded is about at its limits.

Reviews of the new w205 C63 AMG and C450 AMG actually point to the latter being the better car in direct comparisons. Or to be accurate, the better buy.
MB seem to be quietly dropping the Sport moniker as its too much of a mouthful. MB are marketing the C450 as a AWD AMG. Their latest literature talks of the "C450 AMG 4MATIC"

I think NOT. What Jim is simply stating is the C450 is diluting the AMG Brand, and I agree with him. Simply calling it a Mercedes-Benz AMG C450 from marketing standpoint is ridiculous, and it's obvious attempt to draw in more buyers. Brand Dilution.

I won't be buying one, that's what it will do. I'll look elsewhere. If others feel this way... Figure it out yourself. That's the potential impact of brand dilution can do overtime.

You can't hurt resale value of amg anymore than it already is... They depreciate like lead balloons and no one will argue that. There is nothing exclusive about an amg that stickers for 100k then drops to 40k in five years. Many more can afford 40k and some (who don't wrench) likely won't be able to afford the maintenance and repair bills associated with the "100k" car.

"New amgs" have some exclusivity at new prices and that's about it

Sorry, but I see it as brand opportunity . These C450 buyers are your next "real" AMG buyers, whether it be a C63S or a E63 or S class. It's a great way to increase brand recognition. It's not as if the C450 is a slug either. I am anticipating that it will soon be besting the CLA45 and GLA class vehicles.

The quoted manufactureres 0-60 MPH for the CLA 45 is 4.4 seconds, and since AMG is known to underrate it's power and performance specs it's been known to actually easily do it in about 4.0-4.2 seconds. The quoted manufacturers 0-60MPH for the C450 is 4.8 or 5.0 so it'll probably do it in lets say 4.6-4.8 seconds. So still quite a big difference. Also you can get more out of the CLA 45 by tuning it etc since AMG's are known to be far stronger then normal MB's when it come's to the engine etc.

It's a flanker Brand. Benz has researched it. The market wants it without all the AMG **** & wind.

Many Benz traditionalists believe that AMG *******ises the cars. One size will never fit all.

The calculated brand dilution is minimal.

Wow, I thought BMW M fanboys were harsh on BMW for the M Sport models, AMG fanboys are even worse

Anyway, I am a fan of both BMW and Mercedes when it comes to their performance cars, more Audi and BMW for overall lineups. I used to own a 2009 C63, 2006 BMW M Coupe, 2001 M Roadster, currently driving a 2013 335 xdrive.

Plan on getting a new car this fall and was almost set on the M3, until they decided to discontinue the color I wanted (sakhir orange), which made me take a look at the C63 and then noticed this C450 AMG. I have to say if Mercedes offers the blue and red colors shown in advertisements they will have better color choices than BMW (never thought I would say that).

The C450 AMG is a great alternative to the S4 and 335 xdrive (with performance tune), makes 100% sense to me that Mercedes came out with this, and they know BMW has the M340 in the works. This was just smart business.

Now cross-shopping the C450 and C63 (I can't be the only one, really want AWD and no one is offering it in this size with their top performers), I can see why "true AMG" owners would be upset. Looks wise they are very close, I am a little surprised that you can get the sport/race seats in the C450 the same as the C63 has along with a ton of other things, the cars look way too similar, big thing would have been to only give it dual exhaust instead of quad (even though its really only dual on both cars anyway, quad is just cosmetic).

What shocks me the most is the performance rating, 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, rated by Mercedes??? And I thought I saw a test somewhere that achieved 4.7, with that much power, AWD and not a horrible weight, doesn't make sense. The 335 xdrive was tested at 4.7 seconds, 4.5 I believe with the performance tune from BMW, the Audi S4 has been tested at 4.4-4.5 seconds as well, both cars weighing about the same and with much less HP and torque! Is the transmission that bad? I would have expected the C450 AMG to hit 0-60 in about 4.3 seconds, when you think about it, weighs the same as the E90 M3, sure it has less horsepower but has a lot more torque (like 80+ more) and AWD. Am I expecting too much from it?

MB usually understates their 0-60 times just like BMW, and Audi do. So the C450 will probably be able to have a 0-60 time of 4.5-4.6 seconds.
