C450 replacing C400?

One of the salesmen at a recent dealer visit I made indicated at the C450 would be replacing the 2015 C400. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I'm looking at either a C300/4matic or C400/4matic. I really don't need the extra performance of the C450, nor do I want the sportier look-n-feel. I'm also curious as to how many of you who have driven both the 300 and 400 and can you comment on the difference in overall engine performance, torque, and overall acceleration.

It looks like the C300 has roughly the same torque specs as my 2014 RLX, being a large car and a 310hp V6 engine, which does me just fine. Just trying to determine (short of a test drive) if I would be satisfied with the 4-cyl 241hp engine in the C300 and save myself a little money at the same time. I plan to get one fully loaded.

thanks!

From everything I've read, the C400 will cease sales once the inventory clears out and the C450 hits (sometime this fall). No need to have both C400/C450 sold together when they're so similar. C400 sales are pretty bad anyway.

Hi guys...New member here.

I just purchased a new C300 today & my dealer advised the C400 is being discontinued over the next few months and the C450 should be releasing shortly after.

I can confirm that the C400 is being discontinued and being replaced with the C450. C400 orders are no loner being taken at lest in the United States.

Hmmm this might actually help the value of my car. C400 loaded with Air Suspension. For someone that doesn't want the stiff ride of the C450 my resell value may have just gone up

It's not often that a car's value increases and I honestly don't think this would be a case for that. It's not like this car was specifically produced in limited quantities. It's a mass produced car that overall didn't sell extremely well and is being replaced by what most of the consuming public would assume to be a better/faster car in the lineup.

In a private sale, you may find someone that is looking for a C400 with airmatic specifically and is willing to pay a little bit more but that's about it. For the most part, us C400 owners will get hosed on trade-in values though.

More likely a car that was very brief and with less than successful sales won't help you...but honestly...you bought the car for what YOU wanted and put a smile on your face. A new car bought or leased (especially a German one) as an investment, or in hopes of a decent resale isn't why one is into these machines.

This brings up a whole other concept... Posing as a quasi amg... ie badging a c400 a c450 and adding the amg line badges

AMG is what MB calls it. Though I agree...they seem to be making a buck off the heritage of it. I think BMW and Audi have done similar with their sport packages. C450 I'd speculate would sell better than the C400 with //AMG and the other enhancements.

C300 still seems the choice for most daily drivers, and then get the SLS if need to burn some cash and rubber with the 3 pointed star on the hood. But cool that MB offers options. Everyone can get what pleases them the most.

the AMG Line is not AMG Sport and will NEVER be AMG Sport. It is bargain basement. How dare you.

C450 (pre-ordered Jan 14)
And yet another C450 thread starts to decay into irrelevant one-upmanship, posturing and name calling over F'ing badges. If people want to start a thread about how horrible the AMG miss-naming is, and how it's a travesty, then please go ahead and do that, but please leave the rest of the C450 postings alone. There are a lot of us out here who just want to learn about the new car without all the hate. Thanks.

Speaking of updates, this is the response from my dealer, I wanted to see if I can get a good deal on the C450 AMG since I am also getting the C300 ordered next month.

Hi,

I hope all is well! Still no updates on the C450 AMG, and is not available to configure.

Typically anything with AMG badging, sells at sticker price due to the limited amounts produced. The C300 is a volume unit, so those cars can be priced aggressively. However, I did discount the C400 in the past. I'm not sure where pricing will fall for the C450, but I won't charge over sticker like some dealerships do.

I will try to negotiate a good deal on this one as well and start a thread when the time comes, I got 9k off MSRP on the C300 - ordered (not off the lot) so they know I have high expectations, the C450 not being limited as he put it, I am sure there will be some margin to negotiate. I understand from his point of view, is a new product type - mass produced with flair, and they will take advantage of that with the uninformed consumer.

I think the dealer is trying to pull a fast one. The C450 is not a limited production. I would expect it to sell at a similar discount as the C400, the car it is set to replace in the line-up (albeit with some AMG enhancements).

Let us know how you get on. Apparently the UK is getting the car a year after the left hand drives so it will be informative to know how much you are able to discount the sticker by...

Agreed, that is what I expect - same discounts as C400, from memory they were very good discounts. C450 will be mass produced, only way to make money on it. I will post the whole process when it's time to order.

Cheers

Circa 10-15% is a good range to expect and pitch at. This was where the C400 was at from recollection. I'm not sure if the amount of discount is reduced if you are one of the first people to order though. Something to consider...

Updates appreciated.

hahah.... time for a new dealer dude....

450 is a volume production car. If they try to sell it to you at sticker go elsewhere. My dealer (who I'll concede is a friend) has already told me he'll cut me an aggressive deal on a 450.

I have a feeling there will be a C450, much like the way there is a C400. Then, there will be the C450 AMG Sport model.

Glyn mentioned that SA will be getting the 'normal' trims as well as the Sport trim. So maybe that's correct... I don't think that makes too much sense though as all the cars seen to date have the AMG trim on them. Taking Audi as an example, the S4 doesn't come without the S trim does it?

I honestly don't think you'll have a hard time finding a deal on this car anywhere but if you do make the trip down to LA to buy it. Beverly Hills Benz and WI Simonson in Santa Monica sell something like a trillion C Classes every year. Maybe they want sticker for the first cars that hit showroom but 0% chance they are looking for sticker price after 30 days in market. My experience with both dealers is that they just want to move cars.

I've been to dealers that still want sticker for all amg and then dealers that gave me $13k off a brand new e63S.... Keep looking elsewhere if anyone wants sticker unless you just don't care about the cash
