Did you know..... and I am saying this partially "tongue in cheek" that you have to check the oil level with a dipstick.. I was a bit taken back.. used to love the BMW F30 being able to check the oil levels etc through the idrive menu haha.

Im confused, of course you would want your brake lights on when completely stopped at a traffic light/sign etc...

You can close the back camera directly with the return switch.

I'll have to try that. Did you find that in the printed or online manual?

I'm coming from an F30. I too will miss that. I'm kind of surprised that one would still have to do that on an MB.

While washing the car I just learned that you cannot accidentally lock the car with the keys in it. Tried locking it via keyless when I realized the key was on the front seat.

If I'm stopped in traffic at a junction, and someone is stopped behind me, I don't want or need my brake lights on.

They've seen me, they know I'm there, we're not going anywhere. I don't want to dazzle them.

If there's no-one behind me, and I want to warn approaching vehicles I'm stopped, then yes I want them on.

I think drivers would associate a stopped car on the street with no brake lights on as either stalled or about to move. Either way we've been conditioned to associate brake lights as normal for when cars are operational on a street or highway.

It's funny ... on some of the cars I've owned and some of the forums I've been on, the biggest complaint was the lack of a traditional dipstick. Some were actually converting their cars back to dipsticks from electronic readouts.

I've been caught out a couple of times in traffic when the car has started off by itself.

Always use the parking brake if you're going to be more than a few seconds! The other annoyance is the brake lights stay on when in 'hold'.
So I tried an experiment today. Set the HOLD function and waited for the engine to go off. Once it did, I hit the button to disable the auto stop function and the engine started again immediately, with no effect on the HOLD function. The car didn't move. You may have an issue with yours.

Same. My hold only disengages when I hit the gas pedal.

Thanks for that.

I'm having a lot more issues with a £40k car than I should be having. That's another thing for the dealer to look at.

Waited for mine to start automatically and hold stayed on

I have found something I think is neat...

...on the S205 the load cover can slot into the back of the seats when they're down so you can attach the luggage net to the roof to keep a load from coming into the front cabin.

Sounds like a definite safety issue of the HOLD is dropping off like that. Tested mine today and thankfully it doesn't do that.

Not sure what you guys mean by closing the camera with the "return" switch?

Cool thing I discovered today, if you hit the sunroof button up to vent it, there are two settings- hit it once and it vents a little, hit it twice and it vents more (and allows more wind noise). Not sure if a press and hold would accomplish the same "second" setting but I will try it later.

The reversing camera stays on for some time after you have finished reversing and drive is selected, if you press the return button it turns the camera off.

On my U.S. C300, the rear view screen remains on no more than two seconds after shifting from reverse to drive. it has never stayed on long enough to annoy me. By the time I found the any button to cancel it, it would be already off.
I assume by "return" button, priceyboy means the squared off U-turn arrow defined as "back" (among other things) under "Displays and operation" on P. 232 of the U.S. owner manual.
