I have a 2016 C300 4Matic w/Comand. When I launch Siri from the steering wheel by holding down the voice command button for the long period until the beep, do I continue to hold down the button while I speak or let it go? If I let it go and begin speaking, often times Siri comes back with "I didn't get that" and I have to start the whole process over. Sometimes, holding the button down does the same thing. I can't figure out a process to get Siri to work consistently. What's the trick?

I'm using a iPhone 7 and I can use "hey Siri" even when the phone is not plugged in. You don't have to hit any buttons or anything. Phone in center console. I think they remove the requirement to have it plugged in a while ago.

I'm running iOS 10.3.1 on an iPhone 6 and the requirement to have it plugged in to use "Hey Siri" is still there.
But like the OP said, the moment it starts listening is very inconsistent.

iCrap 6 needs USB power to use hands free Siri, iCrap 7 has a better battery and can do hands free Siri on battery alone. This function has nothing to do with the steering wheel speech button long press.

It's because of the M9 coprocessor that allows "hey Siri" to work without being plugged in (unless the phone is on low power mode)

It's called Siri Eyes Free and unfortunately it is not available right now. Honestly, with all the talk about CarPlay I'd almost be happy just having this feature... Much more convenient than finding button on my phone while driving, especially when it's in the center console.
