Another getting acoustic glass...

So to lend credence to the wind noise issue for some of us, I got word from my dealer today that my request for acoustic glass has been approved by Daimler. The bad news is they're out of stock but as soon as some is available it will be winging its way onto my car.

Here's hoping! I certainly can't fault my dealer so far, they've been very accommodating.

I'm glad they will install the acoustic glass for you. When I go in for my first service next month, I will bring this issue up to my Rep. Unfortunately, I know what his reaction will be: "We never heard about this - nobody else has complained about it". Is there any way you could post some of your documentation on this, so that I will have something to show them that MB will fix this for some people. They will never believe me. I brought this issue up before I bought the car, and they denied that there was a problem. Thanks.

Are they only swapping driver side window or all 4?
I am becoming slightly more annoyed for every day it goes....as soon as I am at highway speeds its like I have a devil on my left side whistling in my ear

To the best of my knowledge the acoustic glass is just the drivers and passengers windows. I could be wrong. It's this that I've been offered.

Ok thank you. It's time to start bugging my dealer.

If anyone has part number or some type of confirmation/work order print out please share it.

ManiacGT 09-14-2015 02:01 PM

I've just emailed my dealer as I've re read the email offer and it states...

'Front acoustic glass'

So I'm not certain if this is just the drivers and passenger door glass or a new windscreen or Both.

Quite a bit of work, let's hope it goes well.

Congratulations! I bet it's just the front side windows. Mine has the acoustic glasses and I think they improved quite a bit. But recently, I noticed the noise coming from the wind shield and somewhere else...It won't be a complete fix so don't raise your expectation too high:D. Anyway, it's better than not replacing. Even it's back ordered, it will be available very very soon - that was my case. Good luck!

Front windows and windscreen, the front door windows are a 30 minute swap, very easy.

Replaced mine a few months ago.

Vic, seeing that you are in Sweden as well and on the side MB tech, do you have a part number that I can show my local dealer here in Lund?
Is there some kind of internal "memo" one can reference to for smoother/quicker handling?

(I am trying to avoid leaving car and then get the "oh we tried but couldn't hear the problem" default answer)

I have the dealer looked my car when it was in for service and of course on that day it was no cross wind or rattle in the windows so the obvious reply was "we could not hear anything". Is it possible to file a complaint without going through the dealer here in Sweden?

Getting a Swedish dealer to fit acoustic glass due to wind noice is most likely not an easy task, I would instad take the matter to the person who sold the car, fitting two window panes is a pretty cheap deal to keep the customer happy.

Acoustic pane left: A2057252300
Right A2057251800

Around SEK 900 each

Thanks.
And yeah, I bet it won't be easy. Going straight to the sales guy doesn't seem like an option.

I was shocked to see that car in this day and age is delivered without wheel lock-bolts. Apparently even that huge cost of 600 SEK / 80 USD was too much goodwill to offer. Mine is a company lease so I really don't care that much as I am not personally affected by damage/theft but in all honesty....Korean cars for the fraction of the price have no problems sending a lock kit for free...............but not on 56k USD list price Mercedes.
Loyalty (previously bought w212 at same shop) part is also not worth a dime.

Cheap and lame and definitely last Merc I'll buy from so called authorized dealers and fancy AMG centers...

anyway sorry for ranting and :topic:

What would the cost be to fit them approximately, how long time does it take?

ManiacGT 09-15-2015 12:18 PM

My dealer has confirmed it will be just the drivers and passenger front door glass, not the windscreen (which is fine as that would be a chore). The least I can have the car messed with the better.

vic viper 09-15-2015 12:42 PM

Took me just over 30 minutes to replace them both,
it is a very easy job and shouldnt take more than 1-1.5 hours.

Vihzel 09-18-2015 12:38 AM

That's great news to hear ManiacGT! It gives me more hope for when I eventually visit Mercedes Benz New Orleans to get my wind noise evaluated. I have been so busy with graduate school + 2 internships. I haven't had the time to get to the dealership. The wind noise problem hasn't been bothering me as much since I've arrived in the city because I've just been driving at city speeds and not the freeway speeds that I usually did while in California.

Cmersu 10-06-2015 10:50 AM

My service guy phoned me today and said that I will get acoustic windows in both left and right passenger doors. When is a another matter.

ManiacGT 10-06-2015 11:44 AM

Mine is in for the retrofit on Monday, there's been a delay in parts.

cidtek 10-06-2015 12:51 PM

What would this cost to do it at my own expense?

Parts? Labor?

Did you read Vic's earlier post?

Not sure what the hourly rate for labour is, in your market, but in the UK I suspect you're looking at £100 to fit?

£100 .. At a main dealer? You can double that.

jolt8631 10-06-2015 04:33 PM

Yeah, I'm showing my age there - and the last time I paid a dealer to do anything I can do for myself!

cidtek 10-06-2015 05:19 PM

Just priced the windows and they are about $115 each at a Canadian dealer which is not bad at all.

l3it3r 10-07-2015 11:11 AM

Mine is in the dealer today, and they have escalated the wind noise issue up to MBUSA, and apparently they've been told to expect a 'paper' on it soon. Apparently they are going to officially recognize the issue. My dealer said the windows were the number one complaint they've gotten on this car. My loaner is a POS CLA250 and the car is almost silent (aside from tire/road noise which is WAY worse) up to about 100mph much to my annoyance.

kellens 10-07-2015 06:29 PM

Glad you guys are getting some resolution. I'm in line for the glass too.

My dealer said all the C classes on their lot have the wind noise issue, and he's not allowed to change them out unless a formal complaint. He said "many drivers don't hear the noise, or just don't care". 2016 models NOT coming with acoustic glass though. Silly if you ask me.
