This was released in 23/10, unfortunately only in German, this might help for someone who might want to try some trial and error and dont want the hassle of visiting the dealer.

Beanstandung:

Wind-, bzw. Umströmungsgeräusche im Bereich der Türen.
Ursache:

Umströmungsgeräusche, Reifengeräusche.
Durchschallende Störgeräusche werden als zu laut empfunden.

Abhilfe:

1. Türeinstellung überprüfen. Dabei zusätzlich den Übergang der Türen zur A-Säule, siehe Bild 1, überprüfen ggf.
durch Einstellung der Türen in -y- anpassen.

2. Blende Außenspiegel auf Parallelität und richtigen Sitz prüfen, siehe Bild 2, ggf. einstellen.

3. Rippe an Dichtung Spiegeldreieck gemäß Pfeile, siehe Bild 3, auf Knickstellen überprüfen ggf. erneuern.

4. Schäumling auf 30mm ablängen und an Bordkantenzierstab vorne links und rechts entsprechend Kreis, siehe Bild
3 und Bild 4 anbringen.

5. Probefahrt durchführen. Bei unverändertem Geräuschniveau: weiter mit Schritt 6.

6. Mit einem geeigneten Klebeband Fugen im Bereich der vorderen Türen, Außenspiegel, Windschutzscheibe, Motorhaube,
siehe Beispiel Bild 5, Bild 6, Bild 7 abkleben. Probefahrt durchführen.

7. Bei unverändertem Geräuschniveau: Verbau der vorderen Seitenscheiben mit Code 851 (Akustikpaket).

Very interesting Vic. thanks for posting this. Quick summary:

1. Check the front door fitment and alignment; especially the transition of the front doors to the A pillar (see pic 1). Adjust door as required.
2. Check the outer panel of the mirror to ensure it is seated properly (see pic.2) (i.e. fitment is parallel with the door frame).
3. Check the sealant ridge for kinks along the arrows indicated in pic.3.
4. Trim a 30mm foam piece and fit it to the kerb-side trim piece on the front left and right. Refer to circled area in pic 3 and also pic 4.
5. Perform a test drive. Should noise signature not be changed, continue onto step 6.
6. Using a suitable adhesive tape, seal the gaps in the area of the front doors, windscreen, bonnet as indicated in pic.5, pic.6, pic7. Perform another test drive.
7. Should there be no change to the noise: Exchange the front side windows with Code 851 (Accoustic packet).

so...do everything possible to not change the window glass, and then change the glass if none of it helps. lol

Daimler has to pay for labour done by dealers as well, so this is not a matter of money, if the noice can be reduced ever so slightly before fitting the glass the end result will be even better.

Well I checked the first 2 things last night in the garage. And they looked good on both doors for me. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need the glass, cause when I just very slightly pull down both front windows, the noise is identical, just a tiny bit louder.

Remember that the glass is just a half *** solution, the problem is still there, it is just masked by the sound proofing.

Yeah I was thinking that too. But what could be the problem? Cause from my sound in the car, it sound either like the Windows should go higher up. Or maybe that the glass isn't seated tightly enough in its top position, so it doesn't seal?

That way a thicker glass maybe sits better and seals in at the top position.

The Acoustic glass isnt thicker, it is the same thickness as the regular glass.

There is a plastic sound proofing wedged (laminated) in between two panes of glass.

Okey, maybe then the regular glasses are slightly miss-shaped? Or the doors? I don't know, all I know is that this is really really annoying. And the forum-members that have had accoustic glasses fitted are pleased with the outcome. And I just want a normally quiet new car that one would expect from a price tag like this. I'm not expecting a S-class or 7-series. Just don't want my car sounding like my windows aren't fully closed.

My first s205 didn't suffer from this problem.

Has anyone seen an english language version of this bulletin yet? I did forward the German version to my US dealer who was going to send it on to their area rep. Seems like a ray of hope for those of us with the noise issues but it also seems like the folks getting the acoustic side glass are mostly in Europe.

I haven't got the noise (YET), but I have spotted one thing.


I was driving in the wet the other day and spotted that the water in the lower front of the window, just by the wing mirror was eddying in a whirlwind type of way.


When I looked at the passenger side (left of the car for me), it wasn't doing it.


So I'm wondering if the design of the wing mirror and its connection to the door is making the wind stick and eddy, which then makes the noise you are all hearing.


Just an observation from my own car and subsequent thoughts, which may be completely off left field

I had acoustic glass fitted last friday and today I took a ride on a motorway. I could still hear a little bit of noise. I tried to locate where the noise came from and in my opinion it came from the mirror.

Might be worth blocking off the gap between car and mirror with something and see if you still get the noise. Also keep an eye out on what the water does around it when it gets wet, to see if it does actually eddy

Just make sure you only block it off temporarily and not with something that will hurt the paint or fly off at speed

I left the car in today for the wind noise TSB. All done except fit acoustic glass as tech was happy with result of the other modifications. I do agree the wind buffeting is definitely less than before and that was my biggest gripe. Now it just sounds like the door from my Ford Fiesta installed on my C300 - it does not have enough sound proofing for a premium vehicle. Although the car generated wind noise is less, road roar / engine noise from other cars passing is too noticeable - no doubt why other premium vehicles like Audi A6 come with acoustic glass as standard. I might just order the acoustic glass panes from the parts dept and have them fitted myself.

It's tempting to think this is a premium car but in truth it's quite low cost. £27k in the uk for the entry car, it's not hugely more than equivalent run of the mill medium sized cars and it certainly cheaper than BMW after discounts.

I think they've done well for its cost, it's no £60k S class but then it's also half the price.

Having said that, it does have a lot of wind noise at speed so the fact they've now put in the acoustic glass on mine is a great outcome and notably improves the feel of the car.

Just curious to read all this talk about acoustic glass from users in Europe. What about the US? has anyone need or install them ?

So, they've put in the acoustic glasses for me today as well, I was the first to receive them in my town.

It did get better, you can't hear it as clearly from the front windows anymore, but its still there.
BUT, now both me and the MB tech agreed that we hear a lot of windnoise from the rear. From the rear glasses it sounds like.

So, for me, the problem is still there, just that the acoustic glass reduced the level of noise. But there is still something making the noise.

I think I can guess some of the reason for this problem, MB, to save weight has put in 4mm glasses, and what i'we read, it used to be 5mm. Off course 5mm is 25% thicker then 4mm. And that would do a lot for reducing noises. (i'm not 100% sure but maybe someone can check?) Cause I can even feel that when cars are passing me on the highway, or I'm passing them. I hear their tire-noises to much.. Pretty annoying!

So thats it for me this time. I think I will try to continue this issue with MB. They need to adress this and solve it. I test drove the GLC today for a good hour... Surprise surprise, it was really noisy. Wind noise and on those bigger tires even more tire-noise. I'm pretty disappointed for cars that cost over 50.000€ list price here in Sweden.
