First oil change, DIY

I just did my first oil change on my 2015 C300. Purchased Mobil 1 oil at Walmart, purchased the oil filter and drain plug seal at the dealer (total cost under $50). I jacked up both front sides of the car (using jacking pucks that I purchased from Burger Motorsports and two floor jacks), then I used a set of ramps as jack stands (under both front wheels). You have to remove the middle shield, then loosen the drain plug. As the oil was draining I lowered the drivers side of the car to make sure all of the oil drained properly. The oil filter is on top of the engine. You need to remove the engine cover and the air take to get good access to the oil filter housing. To remove the housing you need a 27mm socket. Change out the filter and "0" rings and add 7 .5 qt of 00-40 Mobil 1 and you are finished. It was a very simple and easy job to do in your garage.

This year I got a pneumatic extractor (7l)...
Oil change takes 15mins start to finish..
Ironically both mercs have 3 years free servicing... But I swap out oil mid life...
Also service the families cars.. Saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars...
And re dealers relationships.. In 8 months I have been back over 10 times
So oil changes havn't diminished the "relationship"....

My car was over 11K miles and service A was way over due. So I called the dealer to ask how much it cost and they told me $200. $200 for an oil change? WTF. I don't know about you guys, but I have to work for my money, and that is just ridiculous.
I never changed oil myself before and didn't think it was worth it to have the car up and craw under to save $20-30 bucks (my BMW 328 costs $80/oil change). But this is way out of control. So I did a little research and found an easy way to change oil without having to jack the car up. It's so easy I don't think I should be doing it any other way.

I did Service A with $235 and I've got Service B reminder so I reset it and done the 2nd oil change from a local shop for $100 with full synth Castrol + OEM filter. In my experience with other cars, extractors leave too much qt of old oil in engine. I am doing draining and refilling for all my cars including engine oil and trans fluid.

I think just the oil change cost 120-150 from Mercedes, but it last for a whole year or 10K miles. That is not a bad deal in my opinion.
Call me a fool, but I rather have service records showing the car has been taken good care of when I go to sale the thing.

Since I only keep cars for couple of years, I opted for only a 2 year maintenance plan (One "A" service, and one more expensive "B" service) with my C450. This way if I still own the car in it's third year, only an oil change is needed...something I can do myself.

I did do some research before deciding to go with the extractor. There's always some belief that it would not completely extract all the dirty oil from the pan. Well, for me, this article gave me a lot of comfort. That and the fact that I don't have to crawl under that death trap makes it worth it.

Mercedes C300 4matic - Sport
Is 27mm, I change the oil myself too on my C300. No torque wrench needed for the oil filter cap, jut make sure "O" rings are in the right groove and just make sure is tight but no crazy tight.

My local dealer charges $145 for oil and filter change - ouch . 2014 C250 with 1.8liter turbo I do my own now that CPO warranty is expired . I wince at $20 for the fleece MB filter but it is different than the Mahle and other paper filters so in it goes . The electric lines by the drain bolt unclip so oil draining does not contaminate them. Have to drop both plastic pans under car to get to drain bolt which over torque on reinstall screws prone to crack shields and under torque means lost screws so I keep a couple extras ( $3.47 ea. at dealer ) . I use the Euro formula Mobil 1 which has the MB 229 oil spec. in fine print on the oil container. 3500 mile between changes since turbo hard on oil. Indy MB mechanic advised using that vintage of Mobil 1 over the other variants . They vacuum out the oil but I prefer doing it the old school way by draining and making sure car tilted so all oil flows out drain hole . Cut and extracted filter in 90% isopropyl alcohol to see what's captured , Thousands of tiny black particles. See other reply to a post about residue on W204 wire dipstick and how to eliminate it.

The oil drain bolt crush washer is 14Mm ID X 20MM OD X 1.0mm or 1.5 mm thick at Bel-Metric . Either thickness OK . About 20 cents each . Can use copper or aluminum . Tranny drain bolt uses 12mm ID X 16MM OD crush washer also at Bel-Metric.
