12v Power supply in Overhead Console

Hi,

Has anyone been able to find a constant 12v power source in the Overhead console?

With all the electrics in the console powering the lane tracking camera's and auto dim rearview mirror and map reading lights, I would imagine that a 12v (or 5V) constant power supply might be tapped in for a Dashcam/Radar detector.

Any thoughts?

search for "dashcam" amongst these threads. A few people have posted how to tap into the trunk and front fuse boxes.

I recently purchased my dual channel dash cam and followed their directions. Start to finish 15 minutes!

Hi,

I have done that search and found the cable run to the trunk, but he that someone has tapped into the overhead panel.

Which dual dash cam did you get?

I would strongly advise against splicing into any of the wiring found on the overhead panel. The complexity of the underlying systems will make your head spin and tapping into the wrong thing up there will mean a very expensive trip to the dealership.

Route your wire along the top roof lining and down the side to at least the front fuse panel (in the footwell; Fuses 200-220) and you'll find spots there you can piggy-back onto. Alternatively the rear fuse box is just as easy to get to really and offers much more slots that aren't in use for other systems.
