AMG.one finally exposed!
It's a guideline, not a rule.
"Nice car, Mr. Salesman. What's it called?"
"Well son it's a Mercedes C300, but of course you're free to decide what model it is yourself. Just drop by the Parts Boutique and pick out some badges. Might I suggest "Maybach"? Very classy badge. Or "Engine Handbuilt by Klaus Meschershmidt". He's very popular, especially with the Smart For2 crowd."
Mercedes created a gauge that decides how "AMG" the cars they assign an "AMG" designation to are. I'm suggesting they probably know best, since they, you know, build the cars.
Versus some squirt with an EBay account, a can of Plastidip, and a wish.
Which begs the obvious question: Just how much fake crap have you glued onto your car?
No one is calling their Ford a Ferrari... No one is making claims without facts... Mercedes chooses to call their "sport" package AMG. He has the AMG sport package and thus highlighted that fact by putting an AMG emblem on the outside of the car... (No different than MB putting the emblem on the interior)....
I don't see why that is difficult to understand... He's not tossing on "C63" in front of the AMG badge...

Why would it be wrong for him to put a C63 in front of the AMG badge? It's his car. Shouldn't he do what makes him happy?
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Congrats on the car -- it does look great. I agree with Mike's reply #1 about how those mods are perceived. They look great, but you've got all the C450 "show" parts, and none of the performance.
Most folks who do this are trying to get their car perceived as faster / more expensive / more exclusive than it actually is. Fine if that's not why you are doing it, but you are going to get perceptually lumped in with that crowd. Especially if you post it for feedback in an owner's forum.
I myself prefer my car stock but I do admire those that have added their personal touch. I like the "slammed" look when cars have been lowered on massive wheels with rubber band tyres... Almost like how many artists impressions look with zero gap between wheel and body. But I could never own one because the ride would be awful!
the amount of butthurt regarding these issues are insane!
Were is a moderator when you actually need one?
Shesh.

Brand dilution is an entirely different topic.
I special ordered her 3 months ago and she arrived 1 month early. It's a 2016 Mercedes Benz C300 4Matic with AMG package inside and out. As I love modding cars, this one didn't go untouched. My previous two cars were:
2006 Lexus IS250

2006 Audi A3

I quickly customized it on the second day of ownership.
Current modifications include:
1. H&R sport springs
2. Roof and trunk spoilers
3. Mercedes Benz diamond grill
4. Mercedes Benz C450 twin exhaust tips
5. 35% NR Solargard tint
6. Debadged with ///AMG decal
7. AMG stainless steel door pins
8. Mercedes Benz black 19" AMG GTS wheels (for winter)
And, I think I'm officially done.....hopefully. These are some preliminary photos until I get a proper photoshoot done later on this summer.

You look like you are successful and probably very smart so I find it strange that you don't see how it may come off wrong for you to just stick an "Amg" badge on
I'm not even one of those Amg crazy owners but when I'm driving and I pass one of those cars with the badge I drive up just to make eye contact lol it's such a disappointment cause this is totally something I would have done in my teens but we have successful grown folks doing it.
I'm getting my from replaced with the more beautiful c63 bumper and grille , the back bumper taken out as well and replaced with the c450 or c63 bumper
Absolutely no AMG badging ! I just can't go through the embarrassment if someone started asking questions
I don't think it means what they think it means. It use to be reserved for someone "hating" someone else's success. They would then make fun or be mean to bring them down to their level. Basically, negativity due to jealousy.
I highly doubt everyone on here that disagrees with the style or badge options is upset because of OPs success and has things they do not. As a matter a fact, I would guess that many of those people have the same or more than OP and are just stating their opinion rather than actually "hating".
Now, it's basically, "you don't agree with me? HATER!" It makes no sense.
I would like to add:

"Built not bought?" You're kidding right. The guy didn't build a more powerful car. He literally bought a badge that falsely implies a more powerful car.
Well, f@?k 'em if they can't take a joke.

My take is maybe mom and dad weren't up for turning him loose with an AMG car, so doing a less expensive, easier to insure, safer C300 and letting him doll it up as a C450 clone was the compromise.
Just my read.

I'm making the observation, that's all. If it's accurate, there's no negative connotation, at least not from me. I bought both my sons brand new, very nice cars for graduating high school and I've promised my daughter a CPO SLK if she graduates with a full Bright Futures scholarship. But if she sticks an AMG badge on it, she will unfortunately, have to be disowned.

Doesn't really matter either way IMO. I've seen people with old and rich do much more distasteful things.
