purchase Tire & Wheel protection after delivery?

Hey I'm new here. :)

I leased a C300 last week and they tried to sell me the tire&wheel protection plan at $2200. That was too much so I declined. After one week driving I found roads of Houston are terrible and a lot of potholes there.

So I feel necessary to purchase the plan so I call the same dealer and they tried to sell me at $1700+. I don't think this is reasonable price since my friends got $900+ in California.

Any advice on this?Should I ask another dealer to purchase the plan? or the plan just does not worth it? I will move to California in a few months but not sure the dealer there will sell me the plan.

18s. I think a bit safer than 19s?

if you are using run flats with 18s i suggest to get the tire insurance only.. try local tire shop in your area.. dealership charging you too much hehe

Thanks for your advice :) right.. they are asking too much

BTW, do you mean 18s is less likely got damage in normal use? I have hit several potholes at 30mph these days but didn't find any bulge on tire yet, even though the sound have shocked me.. Can I assume everything is fine so far? And cosmetic repair on wheel does not cost too much right?

a bit much questions here as a beginner..

Hehe runflats are terrible when hitting potholes! So heavy and hard/stiff compared to performance tires that was why i swtich to performance tires and bought portable tire compressor plus insured the rubber.. if your asking 18s with thicker rubber is less likely to be damage than 19s the answer IMO is yes. Regarding cosmetic repair on wheels like curb rash is 125$ here in california.

First off, $2,200 or even $1,700 for tire/wheel insurance is a complete ripoff. I paid $990 for 3 years of tire/wheel insurance at the Mercedes Benz dealership when I bought my 2015 C300 Sport 4Matic with 19" wheels, and ended up cancelling the plan 1 year later when I traded it for my C450...and received $600 back from the plan as well.

Second, the 18" tires/wheels seem to be more "robust" when it comes to hitting potholes. Myself...I've logged almost 2 years on stock 18" AMG wheels / run flat tires on my two recent C class cars, and I've never had an issue.

And third, if you decide to go with a better priced tire/wheel insurance plan, IMO I'd go no longer than 3 years since the tires most likely will be played out by then anyway. These run flat tires that Mercedes goes with seem to wear quickly.

Wow, first time I recognize that run flat tire could generate more terrible sound when hitting potholes. No wonder it didn't happened when I drive my old Honda with standard tire. Thanks so much for the advice!

Thanks! now i have clearer picture on how much these things worth. I am considering reaching out to a third party to get my tire&wheel warranty.:zoom:
