2.0T from C300 on Wards 10 Best 2017 list

I'm frankly kind of surprised, especially when they say it pulls hard from peak torque at 1300 rpm, I always thought that was an exageration - i really dont feel it till around 1800 rpm.

VERY SURPRISED.

yes it has a smooth power delivery, but there's still turbo lag.

i don't know, maybe i'm getting too old........

but i despise 4 cylinder engines and their puny sound. maybe i'm coming from a different era, but 60's and 70's american V8 sounds like a symphony to me. or a 10k rpm screeming f1 engine of the 80's and early 90's.
or nissan's VQ family V6 engines..............

i don't know, i feel like Ward's is picking EFFICIENT engines over enjoyable engines.

look at the whole list, all hybrids or turbos on small engines.

i have experienced the v6 turbo on the beemer 2 series, very smooth.
The VQ on the infiniti Q50 also very smooth, although they did not need to turbo that fine engine.

but the rest of the engines? maybe the volvo for doing dual forced induction. but the rest is just MEH grocery getter engines.

By the numbers it's fine. In Sport mode it seems to stay in the sweet spot and the power delivery is smooth. It's the cheap, raspy sounds it makes under load that would be my only complaint. My solution, and I'm totally serious, is to put an audio system in it that sounds so friggin awesome cranked up that you don't hear the car at all. The only time I ever notice the engine sound is when my wife is in the car, because she doesn't like loud music. Yet ANOTHER reason to be single.

I guess it all comes down to "can't have the cake and eat it, too".
While most people around here like how "it's a V6" rings vs "in-line 4" as well as we like power and then even more power it's kind of painful when you have to shell out twice as much for gas as the guy on the other side of the pump.

i understand saving on gas if you were driving an accord or camry.........

but who cares about gas money on a benz?

if you can afford a benz (which is vastly overpriced for what it is), gas would be the least of your worries.

i mean, i could care less if my car had a proper V6 and returned only 15mpg average.

my old 2k svt cobra used to get about 8~10 mpg and that's when i drve it slow. punch on the gas and you could actually see the gas needle going down, LOL.

There's the choice of a V6 or even a V8 C-Class.

It's definitely fuel efficient and has decent torque but that's about all of the positives I'd have to say about this motor.
