Hot weather issue

I started my C200 BlueTech Automatic (just 10,000 mileage) this morning, with outside temperature of 18C, the car started and ran perfectly.

However when i start it from cold in the afternoons with outside temperature say 26C, it starts fine but driving along it doesn't feel right when i accelerate, sometimes doesn't respond to the throttle quickly, but eventually the engine surges.
Also the RPM needle behaves weirdly, it does not move down smoothly instead it jerks down in steps. And sometimes the needle will stick even though the engine speed has slowed down. see video below.
After about 10 to 20 minutes of driving the problems start to become less noticeable including the RPM needle goes back to moving more smoothly.
Also if i start the car warmed up in same hot weather the problems are again less noticeable.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

That is very interesting. I have a C200 petrol and while I don't have the power issue you describe I do have the sticking needle over 20c, usually when the car has been sat in the sun and the interior is hot.

dealer has the car currently and is replacing the entire cluster after exhausting all other options.

i thought I was the only one with the rev counter problem.

good to know MB aren't just crap at building my car.

hope you get to the bottom of the power issue.

Thats interesting.

The power issue might just be in my head because the RPM gauge isnt working properly when it has been sat in the sun like you mention.

It could just be that when i apply the gas, the RPM needle doesn't move much, so psychologically if feels like the engine isnt speeding up when infact it is. So i keep pressing it harder until it kicks down. I will investigate further tomorrow.

I have the same problem but with the speedometer rather than the RPMs. I took it once to the dealer and they said it was a software issue (no idea where they got that from). It went away for a few days, but my guess is that is just didn't get hot enough. Now that it's summer, anytime the temp is above 80 degrees outside, it starts ticking down again rather than going down smoothly. Not sure if I should bring it in again and get the whole instrument cluster replaced (since I really don't want to deal with additional rattles in that area - it's already loud enough lol), but I may consider it if it starts to become a constant issue.

The cluster seems to be very easy for the dealer to replace. So i would do it while you are still under warranty.
Hopefully ManiacGT will report back when he gets his new one and let us know if it solves the issue.

oh man, so sorry to hear that, really bad and incompetent of them and i presume they didnt even tell you about the damage.

I live in constant anxiety that my new car will be damaged parked on the street, same every time i take it to a workshop and the car park is congested. I guess my fear is well founded.
