Nox sensor/ wiring fault?
The engine light came on about a month ago. Went to our local Mercedes Expert (Not the authorised MB dealer). NOx sensor needed replacement - both of them (Apparently there are two). They said this was a common problem and that it was acknowledged by MB.
It ended ud with MB changing them for free!
The car is out of warranty but this is somehow a common problem so Mercedes change them for free. I do not know the word in English.
However our local Mercedes expert had to call to a few MB dealers before they found a MB authorised workshop that would do the exchange free of charge.
They changed 2 sensors (€650 each) and then there was an "aktion" on a gasket for the the steering column and a tube on the intake for the turbo. All fixed without a cost by MB. Could easily have been €1500+ if I just went to a workshop with out knowledge in MB problems.
All I had to pay was a Star Diagnose Readout to our local Mercedes Expert at a total of €50. I am going to bring them cake next week. :-)
Lesson learned: Make sure you have some one with Mercedes knowledge look at your car and make sure you can trust your workshop. In my case not all MB workshops would acknowledge this should be changed free of charge.
Best regards Peter
