LED door handle light replacement

Hello,
One of my door handle light is out, and car is out of warranty (bummer). Did a search and couldn't find anything on replacing the lights. Any one done it on their own? Where can I buy these bulbs? and is there a WIS for these lights + the lights under the side mirrors? thanks

I remember reading somewhere that someone was charged $55 to fix. So what’s the consensus? Does the whole handle need to be replaced or just the bulb? If it’s just the bulb, maybe u can order the from MB. There’s videos on how to remove door panels, doesn’t seem too hard. If it’s only the door handle that needs to be removed, that’s even easier.

I’m not positive but these might be the lights for the handle. I can only seem to find the rear light element. I wonder if it’s the same for front doors. I would call them, they’re helpful.

I just got my front driver side door light replaced under warranty and on the paperwork it said that they removed door panel. In the video above you can see once he removed the handle the little LED was still attached to the door. Just slow down or pause the video and you'll see it.

Is there a guide for this anywhere? I've got as far as removing the door card and door handle, I've removed all the screws from the black plastic inner door panel but it remains held in place by some rivets and I'm unsure which ones to drill out. Will the glass also need to be removed? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Part numbers?
Here’s my invoice from the last time they changed my LED door lights.

Looks like the glass stays in then.

Chris

I almost fell off my chair today. One of my door handle lights has gone and my car is just out of warranty. $69 for bulb AND $700 to install it!!! I am in Sydney Australia. Not sure what to do as I am not going to pay close to $800 for a light globe

That doesn't surprise me. My dealer made a big deal about it so i figured it our myself. I talked about it here

Let me know if you need any help

its much work because you need to take apart the whole door... and the LED's in the door are bad quality

Not sure if this applies to the 2015 C300

I was quoted $600 to REPLACE one of the door handles, not the light bulb, according to my local mercedes dealership, they take of the door panel, order new door handles, new bulb and also repaint the door handle. I'd rather let all the lights go out and spend $2400 for something else.

I'd stay away from that dealer then, the only part that gets replaced is the bulb. Basically the bulb holder is built into the window regulator module, the door handle needs to be removed only because it is also attached to the window regulator module and keeps it secured in place. You will need to take the glass out as well. If you look on ebay for W205 window regulator modules you should find photos for reference. Bulbs cost about £15 (UK).

Anyone have a WIS for it or any sort of DYI video?

I have a front and back door leds that are purple and I am in warranty. I will be taking it in this week, I will ask my service guy if I can watch or get details on the installs.

Also, my service guy says my original factory warranty ends in July 2019 and the base CPO warranty starts. He says base CPO warranty doesn't cover trim and lots of things covered in the original MB warranty.

I didn't know that. I thought it was the same.

benzdude 03-31-2019 12:37 PM

I don't get it. :nix: The door handle led is right there. Why would MB require you to dismantle the entire door to replace it. Just take off the damn handle and change it. :wall:

Trust me, the light is NOT connected to the handle, that would be too easy. The bulb is contained in the window regulator module.

I believe you, I am just wondering why they didn't design it better. :D

Getting three done on Wednesday.

Cause it's Mercedes lolol. And in order to get to the wires and clips, they take off the panel.

I have WIS, but I'm not sure if it covers our cars or not. I know it doesn't cover the 2018 I have, but if yours is older, I might have it but I need the VIN to look it up by.
