Cannot play music via USB on iPhone XS
Recently replaced my older iPhone with an iPhone XS and previously used Spotify under USB media. Only problem is the new phone doesn't play nicely with the cars audio system; 2015 C300 with Burmester & smaller screen. When connected via USB I can visually see my phone listed in one of two USB slots under media folder. I've tried both slots and multiple cables but the outcome is always an error on cannot find files after a brief attempt at connecting to device. The only work around is to first change media source to Bluetooth, start playing a song, and then switch over to USB media.
Is there an easy fix to avoid these extra steps?

I’ve noticed this issue too with iPhone XS Max. Except I’ve only bought the car after I got the phone and never got to use any other iPhone with it. I noticed that the problem happens when there are no music files in your actual music library. I filled some songs through iTunes and everything started working fine, YouTube SoundCloud Etc.

Had the same issue on my family’s 2015 C300 with COMAND and Burmester. The COMAND unit looks for files on the device’s actual library, and if none are found it won’t play anything. Just download one song off that free U2 album Apple gave everyone years ago. It will then allow you to use Spotify. After that, everything will work totally normal except you can’t browse your Spotify library like you can on BMW iDrive. You can just skip songs, change from shuffle to sequential, and it will display meta data + artwork. We had a Chrysler 300 years ago that did the same thing.
