Anyone have recommendation for Winter Tires and Rims?

Hi All,

I've been debating buying a second set of AMG 5-spoke rims (off Kijiji Toronto), to fit my 2016 C300, and adding a set of winter tires to them. These are 18" rims that come with the Sport package. Anyone have any winter tire recommendations? Or even Winter rims and tire recommendations?

Cheers!

No recommendations? Surely there must be more Canadians with c300 that have come up with a decent winter package they're using. I was thinking about buying another set of the 18in five-spoke AMG rims and putting winter tires on but I'm not sure whether people are using 17s for winters or 18s?

I have the same question about 17" winters on an AMG Line c300 sedan.

For a non-AMG line the base tire size is 225/50R17 (7J with ET 48.5) at all corners.

Thanks

Hey guys. Thinking of buying a set of 17" AMG style rims and putting some nice winters on them so checking with you experts before I make a move. I currently have the stock 18" AMG 5 spoke on right now with the Continental tires so want to maintain ride height.

Would these 17" AMG fit a 2016 C300 Sport?

Came off 2012 Mercedes Benz c300 . Michelin pilot tires all season. 225/45/R17 x2 (front) and 245/40/r17 x2 (rear)

Dont really care about the tubber as I would be putting new rubber on this winter that is specific to winter conditions.

I was thinking that if these fit I would refinish them in a semi gloss black or matte black and then I'd winter tires and have a nice set of rims for the winter as well.

You’ll need to double check the bolt pattern and offset. Don’t know if there were any changes between 2012 and 2016

Are you planning to keep a staggered set up for winter (different front/rear sizes)? Those rims may be different widths (wider rear).

I think these are different sizes yes. If you look at the front and bank tire sizes the ad says that they're different.

I guess I haven't really given that a whole lot of thought. I was more thinking about them because they're readily available on Kijiji, they're relatively cheap, and they actually look pretty good when they're refinished black. I saw set roll by my office today on a w204.

Yes, the tires are different sizes but are the rims different widths?

You May be able to put the same 17” size tires on the front and rear depending on the rim width. Or you could run staggered winter tires

According to this site https://www.wheel-size.com/size/mercedes/c-class/2012/

Those rims are 7.5J ET 47 and 8.5J ET 58.

A 17” on a 2016 comes as 7J ET 48.5 with a 225/50R17 tire.

According to https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk...ce-advice.html an 8.5 rim is the not ideal for a 225 tire. So you may need a wider tire in the rear for better fit to back rims. Maybe 245/45R17?

Use willtheyfit.com to check other tire
snd rim combinations for impact to speedometer, effect on arch gap or possible rubbing.

Do 17” rims fit over AMG brakes?

Hope that helps

I actually don't know. I was just thinking about that cuz the calipers in the front are pretty damn massive in size. I think ideally I would like a rim that looks nice in a black finish and allows me to run non staggered winter set up so that I can rotate.

I just know that I don't want to put a set of steelies on this car you know?

In checking out TireRack it looks like they do allow minus sizing of Sport to 17”

Maybe there’s a size tire that allows square set up using the 7.5 and 8.5 width rims? You can always call TireRack. I’ve always found them very helpful.

Steel wheels would be too heavy

a square setup would be ideal. That way I could rotate out the winters as needed. I'm not really looking to oversize or undersize tires. If the rim isn't designed to fit a square set up then maybe I should be looking at other options.

I guess a lot of people here on this forum live in warmer climes where they don't necessarily have winter tires. Hopefully there are other Canadians out there or people in the northern United States that can provide a little feedback on what rims and tires they're running with.
