Does anyone know where the camshaft position sensor is on this car its the v6 engine when starting the engine it takes a few seconds then runs fine. Engine codes are P0018 and P0346

So much misinformation in this thread.

Crank position sensor (one off) is at the engine-transmission joint in the 11 o'clock position as viewed from the driver's seat. Standard MB location. Replacement, if needed, usually occurs at higher mileage.

Cam position sensors (two off) are at the front of the engine on the cam cover / valve cover. These are known to leak oil into the engine harness and may require replacement with fewer than 100k miles.

No. The 2 cam position sensors and 1 crankshaft position sensor are “dumb”. Plug and play. Throw the old one(s) away and slap the new one(s) in.

If your cam timing indicator plates have slipped, that is a different problem and not a sensor problem.

Thanks for the knowledge/information. . & if the Timing indicator plates did slip - what do I need to repair/replace. The vehicle makes a slight rattle noise upon start & goes away within 3seconds - but drives fine !?

Please provide the whole story on the car and your ownership. Miles, how long have you had it, what service has been done in the past 12 months?

Slipped cam timing plates require removing cams. There are posts on this site.

Good morning Chassis,

We appreciate the "to the point" answer.

Can you kindly confirm what are the symptoms of a problematic Crack Position Sensor and the Cam Position Sensor?

Do they both need to be changed at the same time or can you only change one or the other?
