Pretty sure they've started in 2nd gear in comfort mode for all 7 speed transmissions. This isn't new to the w205, the w204 has it. Sport starts in first.

I’m also having this exact same issue on my 17 w205. It’s weird for sure and I’ve also tried resetting but it didn’t seem to do anything. I’m planning on leaving it alone. Hopefully it doesn’t cause any long term damage or anything.

I'm so happy to see a thread about this! (Although I do not have a solution.)
I have a 2016 C300 4matic and it does the same exact thing. Under light acceleration, it holds first gear for a pretty long time, but under moderate acceleration, it shifts "normally." Seems a little backwards to me...
At first, it seemed annoying, but I just learned to live with it over time. Thankfully, it shifts through gears 2-7 shift beautifully, so it doesn't really bother me anymore. I also like how the transmission will only go into 1st gear from a dead stop, so this isn't an issue a majority of the time, or when doing rolling stops at stop signs.

Just to clarify... from my brief research, 4 cylinder w205's with the 7 speed start in 1st gear. 6 and 8 cylinder w205's start in 2nd gear. If a 4 cylinder w205 with a 7sp is starting in 2nd, maybe at some point the 7G transmission software was updated with the incorrect option, the trans could have the wrong amount of fluid in it, or maybe there's an electrical or mechanical issue with the transmission. I'd recommend taking it to a mechanic that specializes in Mercedes Benz vehicles.
