2016 C220D SE Model W205 - Cannot open trunk

Hello,

I was looking for some help on this forum but cannot find anything that accurately describes my situation. Hopefully somebody can help.

Here's the story:

I had and have a problem with the electrics running to my trunk/boot recently whereby Number Plate Light failure alert would show from time to time, and more critically, where the soft release trigger on my boot lid has recently ceased functioning.

So I was using the trunk release button on the key fob pending assessment of the wiring issue by my garage next week.

But now the key fob button no longer works either, and my wife's handbag and some other stuff is locked in the trunk.

Points to note:
* This model does not have a physical key lock cylinder near the number plate light into which I can insert the physical key from my fob.
* This model does not have the separate trunk locking facility available in the lockable glove box.
* This model does not have any button inside the cabin which releases the trunk (not that this would work given the electrics circumstances),
* This model does not have a foldable middle backseat through which one can access the trunk manual release lever (which incidentally I suspect may not exist either).

All posts I have seen invariably refer to solutions involving one or more of the above but none are applicable in my case.

(I was especially surprised to find no physical key lock cylinder for the trunk, I always assumed that it would be there in any time of need).

My garage is backed up and can't take me until monday so I was just wondering if any of the members on here could suggest anything that can be attempted in the meantime to release the trunk lid and retrieve our stuff?

TIA
Orson.

If your car doesn't have the switches in the glove box nor a button on the driver's side door then it absolutely should have a cylinder to unlock it with the physical key. Are you 100% sure it doesn't?
Could you take a picture of the whole panel where your number plate lights are and your driver's side door card?

Hi,

So some images below - sorry light is bad but you can see from 2nd image that where the key lock cylinder should be according to all wisdom, that there is a circular cutout in the plastic which has the appearance of a cut-out target that has never been punched..

The marks around the circle are my attempts at trying to remove the cutout, surmising that maybe it's a cover of some sort with the key lock underneath.

But unsuccessful, it looks and acts like a cutout that has never been punched, not a cover that can be removed.

Surely it is not a cover - Merc can hardly have made it this difficult to manually open the trunk with an owner's key? Or do I need to attack the circle with greater vigour?

I am as puzzled as you - further images support my statement that there is no boot lock in the glove, and there is no internal button to release the trunk lid.

Note that this car was purchased in United Kingdom originally so probable and expected differences in trim and functionality to that of its American and European cousins, but this apparent lack of a get-out to manually open one's trunk just seems so odd.

Thanks for looking.
