2016 CLS63 - New Owner

Hi All,

I picked up a 2016 CLS63 AMG ten days back and thought I would post an introductory post. This is my first MBZ AMG vehicle and we are really excited about it. It has been pretty awesome and we already have about 700 miles on it.

As for break in, I am just driving the car normally without any special care. Wait for warm up before getting on it etc... I have exceeded the recommended rpm and speed a couple of times to feel the rush. Incredible machine that never seems to stop pulling. Can't wait for the break in mileage to get over to put it through its paces. Should be exciting.

The car has been flawless mechanically. However, I have had a issue with the front spoiler. The small pieces on top of the air dam in the front spoiler has cracked on both sides. Looks like the factory over-torqued the screws on both sides. The dealer has ordered new pieces to replace.

Things I like :
Awesome motor
motor and exhaust sound in the cabin (especially downshift burbles)
Steering feel and weight
Awesome motor
HOLD feature
LED headlights
and did I say "Awesome motor"...

Dislikes:
Car defaults to Comfort mode (frustrating)
ECO start/stop (This seems to better than the BMW system but still do not like it)
Do not like the summer tires in the PNW. We do not have severe winter conditions but it does awfully cold (30F this morning) and I do not trust the summer tires.
Need to hold the seat memory button to recall seat memory. (should be a 1 sec hold to recall)
Frequent visits to the gas station (don't care about cost of gas though)

As for modifications, None planned. The car is more than I would ever need and I do not need any more power. It already draws more attention than I prefer but it is cool that I have already had a couple of folks striking conversation at the gas station.

I have installed xpel ultimate film on the front end and got the entire car detailed and coated including the wheels. Hopefully it will stay cleaner.

I am thinking of picking up a set of TSW Nurburgring wheels with Conti DWS06 tires for cold weather use in the PNW. I do not need dedicated winters as we have a RangeRover for severe weather transportation.

Uploaded a few crappy snapshots.. I will upload some better pictures when I get a chance to do some staged shots in the area.

Hi Hyperion

Thanks.

The Duc is a monster (pun intended). Just a thrill to ride in the summer.

hey, looks great, exactly like mine actually. as far as the mods, i'd probably start with a ceramic window tint. Protect that leather and a bit of privacy

Hi Fusion,

Just posted a reply on your thread. Piano black on mine too.

No mods planned on mine. Never have been into mods. We just enjoy the cars/bikes in stock form to the full extent possible and then move on to something else in 6-10 years. We always have 3 cars in the stable (1 sports car, 1 family sedan/wagon, and a SUV) to keep all bases covered.

Forgot to add....

I have ordered TSW Nurburing wheels with Continental DWS06 tires for use here in the Pacific Nothwet. You can consider that a mod I guess... I cannot survive with summer tires on a daily driver here.

I think the DWS tires are rated for 50k miles. I used them on the RRS and the VW for the last 3 years I think. They provide good performance with excellent grip in all conditions. They are also pretty quiet. I have heard a few complain about sidewall stiffness but In my case it was a small price to pay for all year all weather performance. The newer DWS06 is supposed to have a more "sporty" sidewall construction. Let's see.

I am doing the OEM staggered sizes with 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 rims. Hopefully they will fit without any rubbing issues.

I have had bad experiences with summer tires on a Porsche I used to own. It would pointless to try the P0s in the snow. I wouldn't do it.

WHA? are you serious?? Doesn't the 63 have the "mode wheel" that stays in the mode you left it in?? every time you turn the car on it's in comfort mode?? sh*t on toast I can't believe it. One of the features I really dislike on the E class I"m getting rid of, I had always figured that every amg stayed in the mode you left it in.

It does have the mode wheel BUT it always starts in Comfort mode With Eco start/stop ON.

thanks, this is good info. Not a deal breaker but annoying.

any chance your porsche was a 911 that you liquidated to get into this?

My wife took my ML, I'm getting rid of my amg cabrio and the E class and looking for something sportier. I'm looking at a 911T, but worry about it as a DD. The CLS is impressive and I keep circling back to it...but it doesn't seem much more "nimble" than the E.

Well.. The Porsche that I had was a 2000 996 Millennium edition. We sold it when we bought the Ferrari. We used it a daily driver for 12 years. It was awesome.

Are you talking about a 991 Turbo? I have driven it many times and it would be a wonderful daily driver as long as you are ok with the limited interior space. We almost ordered a new one but after 12 years with the 996, we wanted to try something different.

one easy way is to program the amg button to go to S or S+ or M which ever you typically drive in.

so with just one button push, you get in the drive mode you want an out of eco mode as well.
