Ideal Tire Pressure

Hello All - I finally took the leap and traded in my beloved '13 Panamera GTS, and in its place, am the proud owner of a '16 63AMG-S. While I loved the Panny's performance, man o man, am I happy with the trade. Just love every aspect of this car. I have every conceivable option, but truly love the "Active Seats" the most.

My only complaint would be, and its small, that the "seat bolsters" are so pronounced, that I any form of aggressive driving, my elbows are always getting crammed up. Porsche really does have its sat ergonomics down to a science....they hold you in like no one's business, yet never interfere with the driving aspect. Oh well.

Anyway, Tire Pressure was a key aspect of the Panamera handling, like most sport sedans, so I was also curious what most experienced drivers here have been running. The gas filter has some odd combination of either 41/33 for my OEM 19's, which seems wacky. I have been running 38 front/ 34 rear, and seems to handle OK, but wondering if it could be improved. Ironically, the Panny also called for higher front over rear pressure, which is not that common. I ended up at 35/35 on that car for ideal handling/ performance. But, the Panny also was running on 20's.

Appreciate any thoughts anyone has.

Thanks!

I've been all over the place on this subject lately. 41/38 feels too harsh, so I've been trying 38/35 and it feels much better.

Thanks...I'll try that this weekend and see the results. I still find it weird that the indicated "front" pressure is higher than the rear...just odd. Maybe it has to do with the weight of the engine, so they require higher pressure to offset this. Thanks

congrats on the car, CLS looks really good this year! I only have a 2012, but mine are usually around 45/38, seems to be fine, only drive it on weekends so I don't feel the harshness....lets see some pix!

Some Pictures

Replaced my beloved PanameraGTS....but LOVE this CLS63. A quick parking lot pic to show the great wheels...and one pic from the garage to show off that aggressive front end!

Wow, this explains why the car felt a bit like a boat!

Why the F*** does the label in the door jam say 51psi all around!

Agreed for sure...the ideal pressure is listed inside the gas cap...

my car indicates 41/33, which I still think is a bit high I switched to 39/35 (cold) over the weekend and I like it much better.

Update.....39/35 definitely seems the way to go o the 19's. Best combination so far of handling and comfort.

While there is info in the door, there are more specific recommendations inside the gas door that take into consideration, number of passengers (weight) and top speed. With 2 people in the car and speeds under 155mph, the recommended pressure is in the mid 30's with a slight variance front to rear. I don't remember the specifics off hand, but check it out. 51psi should be for the vehicle at max gross vehicle weight, way too high for day to day.

Bringing this old one back. Any new thoughts since? 41 seems awfully high for the fronts.
