CF rear diffuser.

Does anyone have this style, AF-1 Aero Function, on you car? How's the fit? Does it look bulky? Thanks.

Wouldn't get that. I bought one from a reputable source and it was still a pain to fit. That's some Ali Express junk. That said mine is the Renntech style which is big and aggressive and it looks great.

Thank you for the warning, that's something I need to consider. I think I like its look but if the fitment is bad I wouldn't. Renntech style is very nice but I am not sure it's the right one for me. It's a little too aggressive for a stock car like mine. It was my first choice though, then I kinda changed my mind. How's the fitment? Can I see the photos of yours? The CF version of the factory one is nice too but I'd like to try something else a little more different.

Here are a couple photos of the AF-1 style.

My primary concern with this diffuser was if it would be too aggressive. I don't think it is.

Thank you man. It looks great and not too aggressive as I thought. I thought it would cover the AMG muffler tips but it does not. I understand this style is a bit more difficult to install than others, not too mention it's a bit more expensive too.

My installer actually did it as a side project as he was also lowering my car and changing my oil at the time, I think he maybe charged me a couple hundred bucks? I feel like a lot of pictures make this diffuser out to be this really outlandish mod but it actually looks OEM+ to me in person.

Did you remove the bumper to install the diffuser?

I agree with Cylinder Head: I also have the Renntech model and it is badass.....expensive though......RW Carbon has the same one for much less money, not sure if it's flimsy or stout though. One thing I have noticed over the years is that the fins underneath the car collect A LOT of debris in the way of pebbles, small rocks and other crap.....I was shocked when I felt under there and pulled out about a cup and a half of said debris! Good luck to ya! You'll certainly love the look of it By the way, it will cover up the AMG emblem on the exhaust tips if that matters to you, I have seen one or two dudes that have extended the tips to prevent this from happening

It's frustrating to get a diffuser. It must be pre-ordered and the waiting time is 8-weeks or longer.

That would be great, time for spring then! Would save it from winter months But yeah, if you want something sooner maybe there is a rush fee or something? I was so anxious to get one for my E63
I ended up paying extra to have it shipped overnight

Shipping time is not that bad, around a week or so. 6 -8 week is production process time. I feel like I am ready to settle for anything available at the moment.

Where are you shopping again? Did you try RW Carbon as well as Renntech? The RW is a fraction of the RT cost.

Checked with RW and many other vendors, including ebay. Renntech is too pricey.

I just pulled an RW one off my car that the PO put on without sealing it. The upper side of the carbon started to fade and lose color. It fit very well and was very simple to install/uninstall. I put the AF-1 on the car instead. I like its looks a lot more but the fit was pretty bad. Definitely Chinese stereotype quality in that regard. The finish and shape of it all are very clean and nice, so happy with that. The problem is in how they tried to make it install. They tried to recreate all the factory tabs that are on the factory diffuser area piece. That obviously doesn't work well when the tabs are covered in gelcoat. Then the lower edge that fits into the strip on the bottom edge is all the same height, including the diffuser ribs that hang down. You have to notch the slot piece under the car where the ribs are so that the rest of the edge will fit into the slot. I put self-tapping screws in each of the tabs in that slot as well and then in the vertical pieces on each end of the diffuser. Those couple screws along with the tabs on the top edges are more than sufficient to hold it securely in place. The biggest issue is on the corners. The left corner wasn't bad. The right corner didn't line up for ****. I ended up putting a hole in the diffuser and bumper support and running a hose clamp through them that I was able to tighten up and pull the diffuser up into position. Looks fine now and doesn't move.

The biggest difference between the two pieces is how "in your face" the diffusers are. The RT-style one sticks out and up quite a bit. It is pretty dang aggressive. The AF-1 diffuser is much more subdued and tucked underneath while still giving a little bit of a sporty look with the diffuser ribs. Because the RT diffuser has a sweeping upwards shape to it it actually makes the entire rear of the car appear to be higher than it is due to the way your eyes follow the lines. The AF-1 diffuser appears to be lower than the RT style, but in all actuality, the RT is lower to the ground because of the lower edges of the ribs. As far as functionality, I would assume the RT is slightly more functional because the ribs extend significantly further forward under the car and also higher up on the back of the car giving a smoother transition for the airflow as a diffuser is designed to do. I doubt either of them has a very significant impact overall all as compared to a diffuser specifically built for aero function over form.

I attached a couple of pics of when I was swapping the pieces below. You can see in a couple of pics how bad the gap on the passenger side corner was before the clamp and after. Also, I now have an RT-style diffuser for sale if someone wants it. I'd sand it down and paint it flat black since the finish is shot. Other than that it's in great shape and will mount right up to your ride in less than ten minutes. I'm thinking $100 and you pay to ship.

Hey hyperion667, what have you done to ruin your diffuser?

12CLS63, please let us see the photos when you complete. I know the AF-1 has 3 years warranty. So you said the RW diffuser has started to fade color already? I'm just wondering how long has it been.

Backed into a guy in a parking lot and diffuser is now garbage! Going to put the OEM one back on until I figure out an alternative if another one at all. Also going to remove the front lip because it would just look dumb to only have a front lip and no diffuser. The front lip is fairly beaten as well........now the question is do I leave the mirror shells on without the rest of the exterior CF?? Decisions.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. You can put the CF OEM on and leave every thing else as it is.

Here are a couple of shots of the one that came off of mine hosed off. You can see that the carbon is faded on the top edges and lower leading edges as well as around the exhaust tips. If I was to use it cheaply I'd just paint it black and bolt it on. If I wanted to make it look good I'd hydro dip it carbon. I wouldn't wrap because of the abuse it takes being that low to the road.

Also a picture of the AF-1 from further out and with the car not fresh off winter roads. Looks exactly how I want it to, but not nearly as easy to install as the RT-style one.

The AF-1 actually looks better than I thought it would be. The manufacturer said it's a direct fitment, no modification needed. Congrats!
