Carlsson's Installed
 

A month and a half wait was well worth it. Carlsson's 1/16 UL 20x8.5 & 20x11, tires Continental 255x30-20 & 305x25-20. Carlsson's lowering module brought the car down about an inch. Everthing fits great. No rubbing. Ride is about the same as stock. This is mostly due to the lower unsprung weight. Stock front tire and wheel 64 lbs. New front wheel and tire 47 lbs. Rear stock tire and wheel 68 lbs. New rear wheel and tire 53 lbs. What a weight savings.

Still on order: painted front marker lights, Carlsson front lip spoiler, wood steering wheel and engine upgrades.

If you can't find the products you are looking for or just want some good advice about upgrades you should call Randall at Autowerks Direct in San Diego. He also did my wife's E55 last year and we have been very happy with the car.

Absolutely beautiful!!! 2 quick questions -

1. What steering wheel did you order? On the 55 and the 500 with MAG package I wasn't sure what steering wheel was compatible - is it the regular 500 non-AMG wood leather wheel?

2. Love how the Carlsson chip lowered it - was not going to use that chip becuase I figured after seeing Brabus it wouldn't go low enough - I was wrong - yours is the exact perfect height.

my C-Tronic came in today, and im waiting for my GFGs to arrive. i passed on the Carlsson wheels becasue i didnt think they looked that good from Carlssons picts, but yours is super nice! im considering adding the front lip as well, still contimplating, post pictures once you get yours, thanks!

the setting you have in the pictures, is that driveable? does it seem like you have more range of motion when using the ABC options? my shop said they use the lowest setting to drop the car super low, almost not driveable, then increase for the other Sport I and Comfort settings.

WOW very impressive, i cannot believe the CLS has room to fit 255 and 305's.

I love it! are you having any fitment issues w/305's did you have the fenders rolled? Your car just looks BADASS..... :y Last question how are those 305's affecting gas mileage? I have allways wondered how much big boys like that would change your mpg :nix: Thanks.....

The steering wheel I ordered from Autowerks Direct. They offer two different ones. I put one on my wifes E55 and it looks and feels great. For specific information about the steering wheel you can go to Autowerksdirect.com or call Randall at (858) 569-2447.

The beauty of the Carlsson's lowering module is that it is adjustable. We used Carlsson's recommendation when setting the ride height with their wheels and tires I purchased. I could of gone lower, but I like the look just where it is. The finder is even with the top of the tire. No daylight between the two. If you want to know what that exact setting is check with Autowerks Direct.

The 305's fit great. The important thing is that you get the right wheel offset. No modifications were required. Sorry, I don't know about the milage.

Wow! This wheel is extremely nice on CLS!!!!! :bow:

But not to forget, these forged wheels do not only look nice but also enhancing driving comfort compared to standard casted wheels! For me Carlsson is defintely the leading company in technology & style of alloy wheels for MB....even if they are a little bit more expensive than all these cheap shiny wheels from China and Taiwan they're worth the money!

The rear fenders come rolled from MB.

The Brabus is a one-drop fits all.

The Carlsson come independent front-rear adjustment by coding plugs or calibration keys (depending on model). Depending on which car and which wheel setup you go with, there are pre-determined settings that achieve the ideal drop. Check with your Carlsson dealer for more info.

I would be skeptical about that shop information.

One question? What happens to the ride height at freeway speeds with the Carlsson lowering module and can the car be raised for going over speed bumps and into difficult driveways.

Oh, also how about camber adjustment at the front and the rear at this lower ride height? Was it necessary to use any special camber adjusting after market parts to bring it into spec.? Thanks in advance :) - Bob

they have an SL55 with it installed in their showroom, they showed me how they did and how it works, so i trust them, thanks for the heads up :y

You can use the ABC settings to adjust the ride, just like normal. Your starting point is just lower.

Straight from Carlsson:

Sufficient spring travel guaranteed at all times
The Carlsson C-Tronic® SUSPENSION also ensures that the vehicle is not further lowered at speeds of over 120 km/h as programmed in the standard system. This guarantees sufficient spring travel and that the ride height does not fall below the minimum level.

Ride height buttons still work.

Car lowers above 80mph by design. By that logic, the factory allows for that lowered setting so alignment is optional.

The car keeps in memory "SUSPENSION FAULT" error on all sensors (service red flag) - if and when the car is sitting below its allowed setting.

Error on MFD reads "STOP! Car too low. Visit Workshop!" with a red background lighting. At a certain point, another error also reads Airmatic. Visit Workshop.

You will need a DAS to reset these errors.

May I ask you what you had done to your E55? I love the Carlsson 1/16 UL's and am looking to get them for my new E55. What's your impression of the work quality and pricing of Autowerks?

I forgot to ask this before, but do you know how much of a different just the rim was? Because since you got new rim diameters, the tires are also different and it's very hard to say how much the Carlsson's alone weigh.

I did the same wheel in 19's on the E55. At that time I was looking for a quality wheel for the car and different than what is on all the other MB's in my area. Here HRE and Brabus wheels are a dime a dozen. Carlsson was just expanding into my area then and Autowerks Direct had just taken on the line. Now they are one of Carlsson's biggest dealers. When I bought my CLS55 I looked around for a different wheel, but came back to Carlsson.

I would highly recommend Randall at Autowerks Direct. I call him "My go to Guy" for all my car needs. I have found that his prices are better or as good as other companies. Randall knowledge is superior to anyone else's I have talk to about my MB's. I would hight recommend him.

The wheel is where you get the weight savings. This time we did not weight the wheel and tire seperately. However, we did when we took off the 18's on the E55 and put on 19 in. Carlsson 1/16 UL's . I can't remember the exact numbers, but the wheels was where the savings came from.
