Aftermarket DVD system for the rear seats ?

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone install an aftermarket DVD system for the rear seats in their CLS ? If so please post pics.

Something like this would be perfect -- not sure if it is aftermarket or a factory option, but if the latter I've never seen it in the USA. Pic is apparently from an E class.

jikjak, I just found some info...

http://www.mbdoctor.com

These parts are for the W211 but there is a good possibility they could be adapted to the W219, as the cars' interiors are rather similar. I've sent an email asking about this, and will report back if I get any useful information.

Attached pics for the Euro COMAND head unit, mounting arm, and OEM rear monitor. Also offered are TV antenna, wire harness, remote control, etc.

Tomorrow I'm going to a local mobile entertainment shop and see what they can offer for the CLS. Also will look into upgrading the H/K audio system with some better amps, speakers, and subwoofer. Not going to be cheap...

No word back yet from Steve or MBDoctor. But I went to a highly recommended local shop today and showed them the picture. They seemed very confident they could do something even nicer, with a better screen and a separate control system (probably in the console). Promise was given it would blend in perfectly with the MBZ materials and would look OEM. I'm waiting for a quote for this, along with installation of a real subwoofer. Details to follow...

I have DVD in each of the headrest and it's very nice finish. Alpine Screen, and wireless headset

What's great is that you can connect a video camera an Ipod or a Xbox in the back and seeon the 3 Screen.
Also each screen in indépendant one can watch TV, second one a DVD and the third one play a video game.

They first expected to insert touch screen but they were not enough room in the headrest so this screen is the wider they could introduce. To me the work that was done looks great because the finish is perfect and you cannot tell it's not from mercedes.

I have a second dvd reader in the central armrest and people in the back can follow the GPS navigation on their screen.

Now that i'm able to unlock the front screen and see the images while driving it'as all perfect:zoom:

the pictures above with the center console monitor are of the W211 rear monitor solution (original mercedes) and are not suiteable for the CLS console or the US spec 2005(+) center consoles...

adding a center rear monitor to a CLS probably won't look that nice due to the console that continues between the rear seat

adding an aftermarket system with headrest monitors is always possible (results vary depending on the parts used and the craftmanship of the installers) but is difficult to integrate with the original audio system (unless one has a euro comand with original mercedes TV tuner or unless one has a US comand without Ipod kit and doesn't mind to only get sound or unless one doesn't mind to have his US comand torn apart to add a splitter module to the screen)

some pictures of rear monitors that we installed in the past can be seen here:

............an easy way to get A/V to the front and rear screens is to use an audio/ video hub with multiple inputs and ouputs. These are made and sold very cheaply by many a/v manufacturers. You first ignore the comand and your rea screen. YOu feed all your a/v sources into the hub........aftermarket tv tuner, DVD, rear camera, PS2, Ipod...virtually anything you wish. Then you go from the hub to the comand through an A/V adapter or through one port of your MB TV tuner. You also go from the hub to your rear screen. Using a wireless remote, front and rear screen passrngers can select whatever they wish to watch from the hub. You can watch the same thing or watch different things simultaneosly. You get both sound and video. Comand not torn apart.
