M156 2007 CLS63 AMG engine ticking
Video of the cold engine startup:
Car has done 60k km and I first heard this ticking last summer. My local garage said that chain tensioner was probably gone bad and ticking was caused by that. I had it replaced and it seemed to work, as the ticking was gone after the replacement.
But after 3 months the ticking noise started to come back and as weather has gone colder, the noise has gone louder.
The video was made when it was +3 °C outside and car had stood overnight. When I come from the drive and engine is warm, it this ticking sound is gone, when I'm starting the car.
Another interesting fact is that when it was -10 °C outside and car had stood 2 days without driving, there was also no ticking sound after starting the car.
So I assume this sound is somehow related to oil, as it depends on temperature.
As the sound seems to come from all over the engine, I don't believe it is chain tensioner.
For me most logical cause seems to be lifters, but those were replaced 10k km ago. Maybe poor job done during the replacement?
Has anyone have similar problem and has had it resolved?
