Retaining factory ride while lowering a C32???

It looks like I will be getting an '02 C32 and one of the first mods that I would like to do is lower it a little, 1"-1 1/2", but I really would like to retain the factory ride quality. I do a lot of city driving on less than desierable roads and fear that coil overs are going to get annoying pretty quickly.

Anyone done something like this and if so, what brand of parts and cost???? I will most likely have two sets of rims, the stock 17"s for winter and 18" or 19" BBS LMs for summer, if that makes any difference. Thanks!!!!!

RENNtech springs actually make the car ride less firm than stock and it drives much better than stock. The springs improve the ride, reduce the level of understeer, and make the car more stable at speed.

Best spring upgrade on the market.

I got my springs today. Renntech Of course.

I paid $520 installed... by a great shop in So Cal.

I will align after a weeks, when the springs settle.

and verdict:

great springs, the front is perfect and the ride is about the same. Better control of the car and less understeer. I have 18's and the ride is really good.

My wife drove the car today and she did not notice the springs.

In the last 2 weeks, I have added the EVosport pulley kit and the springs. I'll need to wait anothe few more weeks for the Powerchip ECU flash. Hopefully by then I will call my project complete, until I buy an E55.

Just be sure to trim the bumpstop to make up for the lowered suspension travel.

I'd not go renntech. I had them on my CLK500. I hated them.. YES they are ideal for flat surface roads and cornering...but on a bumpy road such as bostons roads, they are HORRIBLE... Really stiff.....

I asked my installer about Renntech vs Brabus springs, according to his experience with MB cars, they are about the same in ride quality and performance.

This place does alot of MB's, BMW's & and Audis.

When I was there, he was working on a tricked 645, with body kit, 20's, lowered, a new FULL custom interior, and full exhaust and god knows what was inside the engine bay.

This guy knew german cars and deals with them on a dialy basis.

Either way, Renntech or Brabus is the way to go.

just my .02$

My experience with a multitude of different springs on a multitude of differedt cars is that in general, Eibachs will give you lowering and still maintain a favorably comfortable ride....

that BMW is a full Racing Dynamic modded 5.4 liter V8 with some 450+ HP and no...TWS did not tuned that car. They are just doing the custom interior for him. Carrozzeria did the full RD conversion.

2002 C32 AMG K
I just had Kleeman Shocks and Springs installed on my car. Front and Rear were both lowered 1.5 inches, ride quality is only slightly harsher than stock, and handling is greatly improved!

I just Installed Eibachs last weekend and I did get a nice drop. I do need to install a thicker springpad on the back because its too low on the back. do you guys know what spring pad comes with the C32... and what I need to bring it back up?

As I am new to the Mercedes side of the fence (was a BMW guy for 15 yrs), I see a lot of talk about spring pads with different #'s and wonder what they are all about??????? Is there a web page or site that shows what is what and how they are changed???? I'm guessing that minor height adjustments can be made by going with thinner or thicker pads under the springs but would like to know more. Thanks!!! Also, are these pads purchased from the dealers or are they aftermarket items??? Can these be used to corner balance a car that does not have coil overs???

The spring pads are OEM. They are used at the top? (or bottom?) of the unit giving the unit a pad to seat upon (and perhaps also for insulation purposes?). Depending on the model, they come in four or five? sizes or thicknesses, ranging say from 13mm to 21mm in thickness in increments of 2mm?, and are numbered incrementally in series of thickness variation, #1 being the thinnest and #4 or 5 being the thickest? Changing to a pad or pads of a different thickness will result in resultant adjustment to drop and/or facilitate some 'levelling'. If I remember right, they were only about $15 USD a set....
Haven't dealt with them since 2000 or 2001 (on an SLK32), but that's what I remember about them....

wow... the car was gutted completely from the inside and the lips on those wheels were around 6" in the rear and 4" in the front.

If you have the money for a car like that, I would say do it. But, I would of waited for the M6.

Either way, car was SICK.

you are right TWS does not work on engines, only wheels, tires and suspension.

One of the member in my car crew knows the owner of that 6-series. Those RD upgrades are close to $50-60k or more I believe.
