How many different Silver paints were available in '02????

I've seen the names "Iridium Silver" and "Brilliant Silver" posted a number of time and was curious if these have both been available the same amount of time or did one replace the other??? What if any is the difference??? I'm looking at an '02 C32 was curious which it would be. Thanks

Your '02 C32 is 'Brilliant Silver'. There was no 'Iridium Silver' for the C32 in 2002.

I think that in '02 your choices in silver were 'Brilliant Silver', 'Desert Silver', and 'Designo Silver'. Brilliant Silver i would describe as a flat, shallow, light and bright silver, without alot of metalflake in it. Desert Silver? Think metallic Gold, a little on the light side. Designo Silver as a bright, moderately flat or just less than medium depth silver, with a slight or fair amount of a yellow or very light chartreuse green tint or shade or hue or sheen to it...

There wasn't an Iridium Silver back in '02. I don't think that it became available until 2005. I think that compared to the Brilliant Silver it is warmer, has more of a medium depth rather than a shallow one, has a more medium or deeper color and sheen to it than Brilliant, and has more metalflake in it.

How'd I do guys?

Thanks for trying, but I still don't have any idea as I'm new to this whole Mercedes thing. What cought my eye on the '01 CLK430 that I test drove for a couple of days was that the Mercedes silver has so much more depth to it than the BMW Titanium silver. The BMW silver is very boring to me where the Mercedes silver has a lot more life. The only was I can explain it is that it has a little brown in it.

What was the most common one chosen back then??? Also, without the window sticker from the car, how can I find out which it is???

The most common was Brilliant Silver. You're right, the MB paint looks great compared to most makes. Lexus also stands out as a great finish, too. I had a 2000 S500 designo silver that had that oyster tint to it (yellow, green, gold, silver). Perhaps this is what you saw?

in 2002 they had at least:
744 brilliant silver (which is what the 203s had)
760 quartz silver (mainly used on the 210 special editions)
777 silver arrow silver (mainly used on the SLs)
029 designo silver (looks completely different)

greetingz,

I still think, that as a C32, the car is Brilliant Silver unless it was special ordered. It could even be Pewter if it was special ordered....
And if one was lucky enough to find a C32 in the Silver Arrow silver? Buy that puppy! That Silver Arrow Silver is still one of my favorite silvers - and has only recently been replace by the Crystal Laurit Silver used on the SLR.
On another note, couldn't our friend pull the paint code (or be informed of the paint code on the car) off of the door plate or engine compartment plate? That would be the way to know for sure.

My guess is that the color was Pewter by the description. This is what it looks like:

Here is a pic of the actual car......as you can see it's hard to tell what it is. I will have to call and see if I can get the paint code off the door jam.

Get the paint code Steve -
Should be Brilliant Silver...and that's what the pic looks like to me -- but get the paint code, and then you'll know.
