Replacement Intercooler Core for C/SLK32s
It looks about the same. The MB part remained the same.
However, Garrett's part number (Garrett makes the core for AMG) has changed and went up one number.
Now why is that important?
Most manufacturers when they update the part will also change part number. This gives me hope that Garrett is aware of the problem with cores leaking and has fixed it, in process updating the part number to differentiate new cores from old ones.
In the end we will have to see if it leaks again.

Is there a way we can determine if we have this problem and can our dealer find out somehow?
Thanks!

Old one was, 720706-0001.
New one is 720706-0002.
Is it still $1,400? Also, what does install run, and how long can we expect to wait to get the part?

Vadim, Just checked on the MB part number and got 112 500 00 00 but there is no newer version. So the change is made by Garrett. How can you ensure that you get the new one? Also, non in the states... 2 week wait "or so" since its back order Germany.
Vomit, PM me about the cooler. Your box is FULL
My guess, since there are now backordered is that old part no longer exists.
To be 100% sure one of the surge tanks will need to be removed. About 1/2 hour job.

The number of defectove cars is getting pretty highand I know cars in Germany have been having this issue for some time as well.
Sorry to everyone who has a defective car. Its a real drag!

as far as MB doing anything about the problem with the intercooler, i really wish that they would, but i am not going to hold my breath....i am looking into alternative options that would be better than just replacing it with a stock unit again...
I had this problem with my AUDI I did my maintenance on the car and used the green stuff, 3 months later I needed a new heater core, that thing ate the plastic and the aluminum. I had Mercedes replaced my coolant last year and would be doing it next year again. I think its worth it. so far had no leaks, but I'm so interested with this problem because I want to make sure that I did all that I cant to prevent it.
