Newbie here with a C55 AMG w/pic

Just picked up an 05 C55 AMG. Traded in my IS300 for it and I am very pleased to say the least. One thing though is the front brakes fade really bad and leaves dust on the whole front wheels. Other than that no problems at all hopefully. Pic

if you search, you'll see that the brake is normal and it really produce lots of brake dust to your wheels.

Welcome to the forum. What part of Denver do you live. There's a bunch of C32/C55 owners in town that I know of.

That's great to know. I live in Erie actually. Is there a club or something that you guys do like the Audi Club or the Lexus Club. I was in the Lexus club and we would get together and do some drives up in the twisties. Thanks for the info.

This just sucks because the wheels get dirty fast and I can only think of one or two things. The pad is wearing out or the rotor is wearing out. I just checked the rotor and it looks fairly ground down. Maybe that's normal who knows. The other thing is the ride is smooth but when I hit bumps the whole front really clangs and it's a really harsh sound. Is this normal or are my shocks gone.

How fast are you going when you hit these bumps? Bumps and dips should be something you go slow over. If you want to go fast over that stuff get a raised pickup truck.

I wouldn't say that the clangs are normal but the stock C55 suspension is pretty harsh in stock form. I received a lot of comments about that when I was driving up in the LA area because some of the road imperfections were bone jarring. I pretty much had to drove the car as if it were lowered.

If you haven't taken your car in for service yet you should mention the sound you are hearing the next time around. I mentioned something about a clunk noise and they lubricated the bushings up front on my next service visit. The sound hasn't returned since.

ha ha ha, I've got a Suburban in this case. But crossing bridges you have the spans that are a pretty good bump. ****ty Colorado roads and you can guess how bad it will get. I also looked on how the struts or what ever are mounted and I see no bolts like how most cars are mounted. Maybe need to have them lube it up like sdsilverm3 says.

Yes, the ride on the C55 is harsh compared to the Lexus IS cars, non-AMG C-class, the C32 AMG, and non-M 3 series. That's the price we pay for sharper handling. It's still not as harsh as the M3, though.

There's a Mile High MBCA club and they organize driving events, but I'm not a member. From time to time I would attend Audi or VW Euro GTG, and as I'm sure you've suspected, AMG enthusiasts are often outnumbered by enthusiasts of other makes. They're a little harder to find
I organized a track day at Bandimere last month, but a few members couldn't make it due to last minute conflicts. Do you have a plan to track your car? If so, do it soon before they close next month.
I might be interested in organizing some photoshoot and driving event to the mountains for the Fall's changing colors.

His C55 has the nice looking stock 18s, no?

BTW, my M3 does ride very hard on my 19s. I get special complaints from rearseat passengers. That's the price you pay for a focused sport sedan.

I do plan to track it to see the numbers on this baby. Last time I was there was back in 98, wow. I ran my 95 GSR to a 14 flat with NOS. I wonder if I'd be able to match that with the C55. I'm guessing you have the C32 then. Thanks for the info and the Photo shoot sounds awsome. I just need to wash her up as this damn rain keeps coming down.

Thanks and yes these are the stocker 18's in 225 fronts and 245 rears.

I know what you mean about the 19's, but I love the small sidewall and large wheel look on my IS that I had.

stock c32 runs 13.7 here at 5280 ft. C55 might do slightly better.
But if you're talking about tjbrum's 380 RWhp, now that's a different number.

So what have you guys run so far?

Are the test and tune nights Wednesday and for 25 dollars still. I might just run for fun in this weekends Discount Tire shootout or what ever is being held Sunday.

My friend is the owner of Importsports up in Denver and he tells me naturally aspirated cars have a tough time up there. I was surprised when he told me 13 second all-motor Hondas were considered quick up there. I am guessing the C55 1/4 mile times will also take a significant hit due to the elevation.

Congrats on the purchase. Trading in the super reliable IS300 for the temperamental C-Class is sorta risky but it's definitely a sweet car. Doesn't need to be modded, just wheels and you will have a really sweet car.

Yes getting this benz was a toss up. I was looking into the new IS brand new for the same price of this 05 C55. But what convinced me was the boss, note to one self significant other, like the benz wow factor. Plus it does have more horsepower and it's not played out. To tell you the truth I have not seen an C55 AMG in Colorado until I bought mine. I had a chance to pick up a C32 a while back but it was an 03 going for 35k. I got this 05 C55 for 43k and think this is the better deal. I just hope the gremlins don't make this thing a bad choice, other then that I love this thing and the looks from other people faces, it must make the whole population who see's it say wow also, ha ha.

That's why I was wondering if this thing was going to break the 14sec barrier. I know exactly what other high horsepower cars are doing. I've seen porshes run high 14's, now that's bad. I hope my fellow AMG guys are right about being faster then 13.7. I might just do this weeks coming event of Discount Tire mayhaim shootout here in Bandimere Speed Way. Plus might even get to see other quick cars run slow, ha ha.

PS. Yes elevation is no joke, your sea level 13 sec n/a car will be a mid 14 sec car if not worse. Not many 13 sec n/a cars I've seen at the track here that were 13 sec sea level cars.
