Help - Transmission Problem (not jerk?)

hey guys,

i have a slight transmission problem, or at least i think it's related to the transmission. i have researched about the transmission jerk, and i do not believe that it is the jerk. here is my problem:

around 65 mph, or 2500rpm in 5th gear, when i am cruising on the freeway, the car seems to jump/lunge forward for a split second in a kind of harsh way. it almost seems like it's jerking or stumbling. also, after this happens, i must apply an unusual amount of pressure to the throttle for it to downshift to a lower gear. it doesn't accelerate much in 5th gear when i press the throttle after this harsh jerk. when i press the throttle it is slow to accelerate, and then when i press more then it downshifts.

it does not happen when i just touch the throttle, i.e. i could be applying constant, slight pressure to the throttle for about 10 seconds, then it jumps forward. this only happens when i have been constantly applying pressure on the throttle for a little while. if i tap the throttle then let off every 3 seconds or so, then it will not jerk. it only occurs in 5th gear i believe, and if i downshift to 4th gear at the same speed, it has never jerked. the transmission is fine in all other gears and speeds, but i only find this problem with the combination of 5th gear and 65-70mph. there are no leaks (that i can see), sounds, vibrations, or unusual behaviors otherwise. the car performs flawlessly in all other respects: full throttle, slow-speed cruising, smooth shifting, etc. i am not sure what it is, but it does not seem like the famous transmission jerk?! i'm confused guys, so any help or insight is much appreciated. thank you in advance.

Check your intercooler pump.

One can monitor the IAT under heavy loading to see, if you are reaching 199F
on the intake.

soudns like i'm going to go with the lightning pump as long as install isn't too expensive. i know i've been lucky so far since this is my first encounter with i/c pump, and i have not had tranny jerk (hopefully i never have it). i guess i should add my name to the post about "i/c pump failure at what mileage?"

53,200 miles. 2002 model, produced october 2001. daily driver. driven lightly most of the time. weather around here is moderate, doesn't get too hot or too cold. pump is dying, but has not yet failed - started noticing it about 600 miles ago? thanks to your guys heads up though, i will be replacing it asap, before it does fail.
