101 Octane in C32 Everyday?

I did a search on this question and unless I did something wrong there wasn't much information. This isn't a loaded question, I don't know. Is there any affects short or long term to running 101 octane fuel in my C32 everyday other than my wallet? I have heard possible fuel pump issues. I am not smart enough to figure that one out.

My C32 has the RENNtech stage 1 completed and runs awesome. However, if I run 101 octane there is a definate increase of power and response. I have ran two consecutive tanks of 101 (almost 50/50 ratio 101/91) and then ran 91 octane only. Almost felt like a 25-30hp drop off Clearly a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Is your ECU tuned for 91 or for 93? Mine is tuned for 93, and I ran a full tank of 100, then back to 93, and saw 0 difference. If yours is tuned for 93, you'll def notice a significant gain by using the higher octane fuel.

I should know the answer to that one, but I don't. I will call Dyno-comp (Scottsdale,AZ where my RENNtech stage 1 was done) and ask about that. The goal going in was to clear 400 hp at the crank. After a couple dyno runs and programming they achieved 404hp and 428torque at the crank. Maybe the ECU was tuned for 93. The difference in hp and torque was a lot more than advertised for a RENNtech stage 1 kit. Believe me, I am not complaining.

So you had a custom tuned ECU? If so, then it was tuned for the fuel you had in the car at the time (I'm assuming 91)

if you are running 91 octane in your area, then they would tune the car for that octane level...

to answer your question though about running the higher octane, it depends on whether you are running leaded or unleaded fuel? if you are running unleaded, then it is fine...if you are running leaded fuel in your system, then you are going to have problems with your car down the road...such as fuel system(fuel pump mainly, could be other problems), and also springs, retainers, valves, cams(these parts are all made for unleaded fuel), then you will start to deteriorate your emissions system(cats, etc.)

hope this helps...

The problem with running leaded race fuel is that with it kills your o2 sensors and cats.

In the Arizona heat it could be tuned for 91 and it will still pick up more HP by using a higher octane gas. Any of the ECU tuners like Renntech, Evosport, Kleeman tune for 91 and the car with not make full power on a hot day on 91 gas. 93 octane may not be high enough to make full power.

97, 98, or 99 RON unleaded is available at almost every fuel station in the UK, and I'm not aware of any problems. 95 RON is the standard (and lowest) grade here, and so the cars are tuned for 95 RON.

I sent an email to MBUK asking if the ECU would adapt to the higher octane levels and produce more power. Their response was that they have not tested it and can't comment!!

My car seems to like 99 RON, although it may be the placebo effect!! It's run on 98 RON for 12 months, without any obvious problems - unless that's what's caused the knocking through steering, duff head rest motor, etc

that's what aftermarket ecu's are for...get them to advance the timing to run on the octane that are using in the car so that you will get the max performance out of the car...
