335i; what's the fuss

First things forst, i'm not bashing the 335i. Personally, i'm not keen on the styling and prefer the exclusivity of the C32/55, M3 and S4 over a regular 3 that will soon be everywhere.
My point in posting was fairly obvious. It was to show that the 335i is not the giant-killer many who frequent this board thought it was. I made it by using actual figures from a respected magazine. I linked the article to allay concerns of personal bias.

I test drove it twice and have plenty seat time in an e46 M the car will pull from any where. If it had the same gearing as the e46m it would kill it.
The m3 has the sickest LSD with way better gearing 362-64 and the 335 got an open diff (1 wheel peel)with 3.07-08 I can't remember its from memory.

how much your car worth?
better sell it quick if you dont plan on keeping it
ps the gearing is the only thing right now that is holding the 335 back from squating a big one on it.
It even has the same brakes from a zhp or what ever there called M3s
has more tourqe to the wheels than the s54 makes at the crank
and can make 100 ftlbs more with just a tune

You posted a UK mag time..
how about a US mag time.... HERE YOU GO.

=======================================
By 100, your M3 and the 335i SEDAN are very close, enough to be be considered a wash or depending on the driver. That is just one magize that tested the coupe and sedan.
I would still give the edge to the 335, since it has more torque. On the street, torque wins. On the track, Hp wins.
========================================
The fuzz is that this car can be modded alot cheaper than the current M3, C55, S4, old C32, or CTS-V and its base price is less.
Granted you don't ge the M, S or AMG badging, but for a daily driver... this car is perfect.

BTW, 335d makes 427lb/ft and gets 35mpg. Imagine the touring version in a sombre color- Now that's a sleeper!

Of course i'm going to keep it. I recently bought it knowing full well there was a new model coming after deciding I didn't like it. It's my 3rd E46 M3. One was a CSL which was amazing but SMG wasn't for me and it ended up in a smash at Croft racetrack.
My car's called the M3 CS in Europe. It's known as the competition package/zhp here.
Are you sure the brakes are the same? That's the first I've heard but you may be right.
I just don't think even with better gearing a stock 335i is going to be quicker from 0-150 and certainly not around a track. ok?

More than a 335i will be worth in years time. That's besides the point anyway.

the 335 did the ring only 4 seconds slower than the e46 M3.You have to give them some credit there.
the car has really well brakes and has the 50/50 weight balance. Its only huge dray back is the rear end.I don't think the M3 would be such a nice track car if it had an open diff.Woulnt you agree?
the 335 has a whole lot new comers coming ove rto BMW because of its twin turbo setup.
shiv from evo/sti is tuning them and stratospere from Audi/P is starting to tune them also.

I really don't see what the big deal about this car is. It's a turbocharged BMW and everyone is going gaga. I could care less if it's tunable, but it's not an M, plain and simple.

The Comp pkg laps the Nurburgring more than 4 secs quicker than the 335i though. Not by much more like. I forget the actual time, however.
Don't mean to keep pushing this point, but are you sure the brakes are the same? I'm skeptical about this.
Anyways, I love my car. I know it isn't the quickest car in the world in a straightline wehn compared to the 500bhp brigade but it's truly exhilarating (unlike so many hp-centered cars), can seat 4 and looks and sounds great. I've had some classic runs over the years with C32's. I have a real soft spot for that AMG in particular

I love the car and I'm considering buying it for my wife. She loved driving my E46 M3, so I'm sure she will not notice a difference.

I personally looking forward for the 535 which can be tuned for some fun power while being affordable compare to the 550 or M5. PLUS it's not a 3 series.

C55AMG W203; 330i E90
Driving a C55 or C32 and migrate to 335i is a downgrade. New cars are always cheaper and faster. I would avoid to be comparing performances backward with outgoing models and think that I am taking advantage from the lower priced new cars. CLK63 and the coming new 420hp M3 will make 4.5s and 60kg/m torque is not a joke comparing with the 335i's 40kg/m. And , we are not just talking about the engines, new C, new CLK , new M3 will be equipped with the latest enhancement of transmissions and all that 2007 new S-class and 2008 new 7-series technology(luxury, safety, fuel economy&handling) to it. Moving from a C32/C55 to a E550 or 550i are also not an 'upgrade'. Just bcos they are now having more powerful engine say 388hp 'enough' for a big saloon? The 'enough' is also aged. For performance saloons, we are really talking about 500hp, 60kg/m +.
It is sad if I am driving a Merc without the AMG badge, I would feel being normal.

2003 C32 AMG BLACK
Bottom line is, it's just another 3 series. When the new M is out, and the new AMG is out, and the new S is out... the 3 won't be spoken of. Sure some 3s will sport crazy power... but then again, so do some civics.
