Anyone with ASP pulleys, please respond
Hey Everyone,
I just got my ASP pulleys installed and when I just start the car and the engine is cold, I put it in reverse or try to accelerate just a bit fast the car kind of bogs and makes weird sounds. It feels like the belt needs to be tightened but when the car is warmed up it is fine and when I feel the belt tension with the car off it feels tight. Anyone else have these issues, Is there anything else I should check?
Thanks Pete

No I didn't touch the ECU, I thought the ECU would adjust somewhat to the modification. I know there are a lot of folks who are running these pulleys without an ECU upgrade, not sure if they experience the same issues.

it is the ECU pulling power back electronically because it is trying to protect the motor while it is cold, it is seeing too much boost while it is cold...you should not be trying to get into boost while the motor is cold, it is one of the worst things you can do to a motor...

I'm not flooring it, just using moderate throttle to get going and in reverse I don't even tough the gas, and it takes a few seconds longer than usual to engage and makes some funky noises.

Yes its takes maybe ten seconds for reverse to engage and it sounds like the pulleys stop and then reverse, But its strange because the car acts completely normal when warmed up. I was thinking that the belt might be loose so it takes more inertia to get going. It only started when the pulley kit was installed.

if you're just talking about belt squeal while cold, your belt either wasn't aligned properly or wasn't tensioned properly

ok, did you install the pulleys, or did you have them installed?
it does not sound like a pulley problem, but the easiest way to tell if it is a problem with the pulleys is to recheck all of them, especially the crank pulley...or, remove the pulleys altogether and put it back to stock...i never had a problem with my pulleys, ASP or Renntech...

Try opening the hood and then starting the car. Watch the belts and listen to see if they are slipping or not.
This one is hard to diagnose, but the anomaly is the pulley / pulley installation.

this might be a shot in the dark, but here goes...the problem could be something transmission related that is being compounded by the extra power from the pulleys...could be from radiator fluid leaking into the tranny...
or, it could be from something that is not related to the pulleys at all...but like i said before, i would pull the pulleys off the car, just to be sure...

The dealer actually replaced the radiator a few months ago because of glycol contamination. I had the pulleys installed by my local mechanic, I will have him recheck the belt and pulleys. Another thing is when I first start the car the belt spins up fast then drops to idle and the car shutters a bit. It does seem like something needs to be adjusted for the car to idle better. I thought it could be my transmission also but when the car is all warmed up and I put it in reverse it seems fine. I also have the sprint booster installed maybe that tries to pump to much fuel with a very little push of the pedal. I just want to add that I really appreciate you guys helping me out.

Update I took the car to the dealer for warranty stuff and they must have tightened the belt or something cause now the car is perfect, so responsive.

Hey everyone,
My problem came back after one day of working fine, probably because the weather was warmer. I also notice that somekind of airvalve or something is ticking, its located right next to the driverside headlight. Anyone know what this does or what its called? I also noticed some oil leaking from the front somewhere, I keep seeing small puddles of oil whenever I park somewhere for a few hours or so. I took a good look at it and I can't pinpoint where but its definately close to the bottom front of the engine. Anyone know of any common oil leaks or problems with their c32?
Thanks Pete

Check to make sure the crank pulley bolt is still tight and torqued properly.
Look around the pulley. It could be the front cover seal, that mates to the crank pulley. If the seal gets damaged, it may leak.
Who did the pulley install?

I had my local mechanic do the install, I think it might be the crank seal, does anyone know the part number for this or how much they cost? Thanks Pete, I'm gonna replace it and see how it is.
